My wife and I took our 3 year old for a holiday, and opted for a Signature room which was really comfortable and well decorated. All of the staff were friendly and efficient, and attentive to our needs. The views are magnificent from the new decking , which allowed us to enjoy breakfast, and some early evenings looking on to the city.
I would have liked to have had guaranteed parking, although there seem always to be spaces on the doorstep
Will definitely stay again, and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and glad to hear that the weather allowed you to take advantage of our new decking area.

Our parking is on a first come first served basis, however, the surrounding residential streets have ample unrestricted parking in the event that our car park is full.

I am thrilled that you would recommend our hotel and look forward to welcoming you back to the Best Western Braid Hills Hotel in the future.

Please do not hesitate to contact us directly next time you are planning a trip and one of our team will be happy to assist.

Kind Regards,

Heather Unwin.

Our first impressions of the hotel was Lovely building on the hill. Staff where very friendly and happy to help. Although early for check in that wasn't a problem, our room was ready, very spacious, lovely with super view. We arrived at lunchtime the food by first class and again the staff were friendly and attentive. Great nights sleep nice and quiet hotel except for the heat (not often we can complain about that in Scotland). Breakfast was good but could have been better, but over all we had a fabulous time and would not hesitate to come back.

Always a pleasure to stay at the Braid Hills: warm welcome, big rooms and an excellent breakfast. Parking is available around the hotel, on the road nearby if not on site, and there's a good bus connection to the city centre. It was unusually warm when we were there last so a fridge in the room would have been handy, but that's only a minor grumble.

We booked direct with the hotel rather than through booking.com or similar - definitely worth doing this as we got the same price but a free upgrade. We were upgraded to a recently refurbished enormous room with a kingsize four poster bed.

The room was spotless, just a slight niggle in that there was only one set of towels but this was just an oversight and we were quickly given more. Bathroom large with plenty of room to put things and really nice toiletries.

Views over the city were fabulous, yes there is work going on at the front of the hotel to the decking area but workmen are gone by 6pm and we definitely didnt hear them in the morning at any ungodly hour.

Bar hideously expensive so our tip is to go to the bar next door, if the sun is out you can sit out on the decking and watch the world go by too.

The only real let down was breakfast. Shambolic is the only way to describe, chairs so heavy you can't move them into place easily, far too cramped together so that I had to ask another diner if he could move his chair in, he had to stand up in order to manoeuvre this monstrous piece of furniture. Breakfast offer was ok, and that's just it, it was ok. Staff are inexperienced, young and really not that bothered. Is it because the worst shift is breakfast that no one wants it so they give it to the youngest most inexperienced staff? But at one point we had a young lad directing people to their table, whilst gesticulating over ours so much so we had to stop our conversation because our eye contact was lost in this arm waving over the table. The set up of the tables is all wrong, our table was in the way of people trying to get down to the buffet and staff trying to get to the kitchen. People were left waiting for food on more than one occassion, everyone waiting for eggs, so the staff bring out a big batch of fresh fried eggs, people waiting for hash browns and staff bring huge tray of bacon. Rather than bring out fresh juice staff take half empty jugs away to the kitchen leaving one jug of water in the middle. Could be so much better if there was someone in charge who could direct these young staff.

Checkin on the other hand was a joy, helpful, friendly, polite, quick, efficient. Cant say any more really.

Only other niggle was the parking. We had been out for the evening and by the time we got back there was no parking available at all so we had to park on the road. Perhaps if you have several bikes in like you did this night again you could suggest to them that they park sideways on and have several bikes in one space rather than the single bikes in over 5 spaces.

Will we stay again? Definitely, although we will make sure and book directly and will call to check we are in a refurbished room as we understand some of the older rooms leave a bit to be desired.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review.

I am thrilled to hear that you were pleased with your room and the service provided by our reception staff and it is great to hear that you would definitely stay with us again.

I am disappointed to read your comments with regards to breakfast. I apologise for the issues that you experienced. All our breakfast staff receive full training and we expect them to provide the same level of service as we do any other team member. As I am sure you can appreciate breakfast is a key operation for the hotel that needs to run smoothly. You can be assured that the points raised will be passed onto our Food and Beverage Manager in order to be reviewed and remedied. Should you wish to contact me directly regarding any of the above please email me on heather.unwin@braidhillshotel.co.uk.

I look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to the Best Western Braid Hills Hotel next time you are visiting Edinburgh. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on the email address if I can be of any assistance.

Kind Regards,

Heather Unwin

First trip to stay in Edinburgh. Hotel was well placed a couple of miles out of teh city right on a bus route so made getting about very easy. Staff were brilliant and very helpful and were always willing to try to put any problems right. Room at front of building overlooked a park and gave other nice views. Room was quite large and comfortable and bathroom clean but place could do with a bit of modernising. Car park not that large but there was some on street parking if full. No lift in hotel but the stairs were not a major obstacle. Some nice sitting areas in a reasonably priced bar and the restaurant overlooked the park too. Food was decent enough but not top quality. Breakfast was buffet with hot food served on cold plates and some of the hot items were going too cool but after mentioning this attempts were being made to improve the situation. Not top class but clean, friendly and good base for sightseeing.
