The location of this hotel couldn't be better. It is located besides Edinburgh's main train station. From there we went to Glasgow and Inverness with no problems at all. The Royal Mile is one block away, with all its attractions (including the Edinburgh Castle and the Queen's Castle), shoppping, restaurants, etc. Prices Street and George Street are at walking distance as well. The hotel's restaurant is also quite good. The only thing that bothered me was the room architecture: kind of odd. There was not enough room to open the closet doors. There is a bathtub in the opposite side of the bathroom. And, more important, the mattress was not good at all.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view to the Scott Monument and Prices Street.

Junior suite??? Second floor, constant offensive smell. Unfortunately booked for two nights, unable to move all hotels full. My room was NOT serviced throughout my stay despite informing reception and housekeeping on several occasions, telling reception I was actually out of my room and could it be serviced. Two room service food trays were left in my room service hatch only to migrate to outside my door for again the whole of my stay, again despite informing reception.Other rooms. On my floor also had food trays left.
The hotel was busy , during the Festival month, but this is no excuse .I was extremely disappointed after reading other reviews. Could I put this down to a " blip". I think not, I felt like a cash crop and there were plenty more customers to follow me.

My Wife and I stayed here in Mid August. Fantastic service. When we walked in they took our golf clubs an told us that they would store them so they did not clutter the room. Great anticipation. The room was charming and clean. The bathroom modern and bright. Great shower head, All of the little things are done here. The location could not be better. I would stay here again.

We stayed three nights and were constantly impressed with the staff knowledge and experience. No matter what we asked they had the answer or quickly got it for us. The rooms are very comfortably furnished with a lovely bath. As a former journalist, I appreciated the little decorative touches that honor the function of this historic building. Morning breakfast buffet, which was included in our room, was adequate for our needs. We also had dinner one night and drinks in the bar. We would stay here again.

To treat my partner as a surprise i booked The Scotsman. It was unbelievably amazing. Not one detail forgotten. From the moment we arrived (with a birthday card for my partner in our room) to the day we reluctantly had to go home we were given great service throughout. From the delicious breakfast in our room, cocktails in the bar, dinner in the dining room. Everything was truly magical. I couldn't have imagined anything better. Worth every penny, and certainly not over-priced for such amazing food and service.

From the moment we arrived, we could not have been made more welcome. The staff were extremely helpful and efficient. The rooms are a good size and full of character. The location is ideal as it is within walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley train station and most central locations. For a relaxing trip to Edinburgh, this hotel is perfect.

We stayed at the scotsman hotel for two nights, a year ago. And its still, what we remember as one of the best parts of our trip to Scotland.

We had a suite, where you had a livingroom on one floor, and the bedroom was one floor up, it was as far up as you could get in the hotel, which gave us a fabulous view, over Edinburgh.

It was one of those hotels where everything was just nice, the restaurant was good, and the spa / wellness area is recommendable as well. And they had complementary Whisky, which was awesome. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Its ultra central, so most of the attractions on the royal mile can be reached within 10-15 minuttes on foot.

So while been the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed at, it was worth every Pound we payed. Also we booked very late, so only few rooms where available in Edinburgh at the time, and they where all expensive.

When we eventually come back to Edinburgh, the Scotsman will be our hotel of choice.
