I'm a bit of a 5-star hotel snob and after reading some reviews was a little nervous about staying here. However, I loved this hotel.
It's lovely and cosy - exactly what you need when you have been walking around Edinburgh on a drizzly Spring day! The location is fantastic.
We found the staff were very very attentive and helpful.
The hotel does feel lived-in, but I felt in a really lovely way. It has a slight 'country house' feel even though it's in the heart of the city. It is very clean and well equipped with lovely toiletries, tea/ coffee, minibar, etc.
We didn't eat at the hotel, but we did use the spa facilities. There are amazing fitness facilities, which we didn't use, but the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were lovely. The only issues I had were that we found it really difficult to find our way to the spa (although it was nice to explore the hotel on the way). Also, the spa itself is quite cold - it might be to do with it being in the basement area or the stainless steel pool. If you can, take slippers and a robe from your room because as a guest, you will only receive a towel. I sat and read on the loungers and it was rather nippy"
All that said, I would most definitely return.
