Didn't stay at the hotel but had the great pleasure of eating at the Brasserie. Beautiful building (the interior is wonderful - marble everywhere) , first class food and attentive staff. Go if you can.

What a beautiful hotel, with extremely professional, yet warm, attentive staff. Melissa, Barry (concierge) went beyond the 'extra mile' in providing superb service.
My wife stayed for 3 nights using a Luxury Link package - very good value - we use LL often.
This trip to Scotland was a first for us and we were celebrating both our 44th wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. They upgraded us to a lovely sized classic, oak pannelled room, and provided complimentary champagne and treats for our special occasion.
However as the room on the first night was somewhat noisy from the street below, they upgrade us to a 700sq.ft gorgeous suite, complete with a decanter of scotch whisky which, regrettably, was left untouched as we do not like spirits!!!!
There was an exceptional fitness area and a stainless steel pool - never seen one before!
We only ate in restaurant for breakfast which beside a la carte, had a lovely buffet with wonderful mushrooms, sausages to die for, creamiest scrambled eggs amongst many other choices - I regret not trying the haggis!
An exceptional hotel, great accommodations, and staff their greatest asset!

Room Tip: High floors offer spectacular city views

Pros
-great location, very central and can walk to most places in Edinburgh
-nice room, clean and most modern amenities
-friendly and helpful staff

Cons
-room could have used an extra dusting
-burger from room service looked like the meet was a standard freezer burger and not what I would have expected out of such a nice hotel (ie home made burger)

Conclusion
I would stay again of price was around 150 pounds or less because of the great location and terrific stainless steel pool to swim in. They can improve on the quality of their food and maybe ability to cool down a room without opening a window on to a Main Street.

Fantastic hotel within a few minutes walk from the train station, Princess Street and the Royal Mile. The interior of the hotel is beautiful.

We stayed in room 803. This was a split level room with great views toward the castle & Princess Street. We were totally unaffected by street noise during the night. The bed was comfortable & the bathroom well stocked with towels & toiletries. The room was large in comparison with other Edinburgh hotels we have previously stayed in, the bathroom was also spacious with a brilliant powerful shower.

Staff were very friendly & welcoming. A lovely man showed my daughter and I how to get to the train station via the hotel lift as we were unsure of where to go. This was greatly appreciated as it prevented us getting wet on a very rainy day, the lift is directly across from an entrance to Waverley Station. I did not catch the gentlemans name but I feel he was a credit to the hotel and extremely helpful.

I will certainly return to this hotel next time I am in the area.

Lovely hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, particularly the lovely Ivor. Our room was large and very quiet. Our breakfast was gorgeous and in beautiful surroundings. A real find! We will definitely be back.

If you value your belongings, BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT THIS HOTEL. We had over $9000 in valuables stolen directly from our room: a very expensive Breitling watch, high end camera and accessories, iPad, wallet, etc. Likely we will never be reimbursed for our loss, but at the very least we can tell our story.

What happened: we went down to the spa for 45 minutes and came back to find all of our valuables gone. During the short 45 minutes we were gone, our room was cleaned by housekeeping and valuables were stolen. A review of hotel security showed evidence of multiple entries during our absence (the keys and doors are computerized to show entrances and exits). Someone was entering the room with hotel secure keys. There was no evidence of forced entry. The hotel would not take accountability for their vulnerable security system.

The Scottish police told us directly that it looked like an inside job, but they couldn't pin point an individual and no video captured the thief(s).

In the end, it doesn't matter if it was an inside job or a local thief, the point is that the hotel is not secure, and the hotel management and legal team refused liability for our loss in their hotel. I wish I could write otherwise, but the Scotsman Hotel is not a secure hotel. It's beautiful and the location is excellent, but not secure.

We booked 5 rooms for 10 friends to stay to celebrate my 40th birthday. We booked ahead and got a fantastic rate. The hotel is beautiful, very impressive but also homely and welcoming. Rooms all different but great size and facilities. Amazing views over Edinburgh from our room. Breakfast was delicious in impressive surroundings and the spa is stunning. I'd like to thank all the staff for their wonderful friendly helpful manner - nothing was too
much trouble.
And the lovely send-off from Ivor with his brilliant station advice was the icing on the cake!! Will be back!
