Stayed at Mercure Hotel on Princes Street to visit the Edinburgh Christmas Market. What a fantastic location!! The hotel was modern, clean and food was very good but major plus point is location. Would certainly stay here again. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Stayed one night just before Christmas. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The room was right opposite the castle and had great views. Well worth the stay. The room was clean and fresh and warm when returning from the cold.

Room Tip: Closest parking is at wavely train station. You get a discount for staying at the mercure.

We stayed at the mercure for a Christmas night and had a meeting the next day. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the location is fantastic however I found the rooms in themselves to be a let down. When I checked into my room I was taken aback by the fantastic view however when I observed the rest of the room it looked tired and dingy. Because the bathroom is old it looks dirty it certainly could do with a revamp.
Other than this I would say it was a nice hotel. We also had a meeting with a buffet and I would like to say the buffet lunch was fantastic plenty if food and all delicious I would certainly recommend using the hotel for a meeting again.

All in all a nice hotel I would stay in again. I would recommend a bit if a room makeover as it's the only thing that let's it down

My husband and I went for a weekend away to Edinburgh for the Christmas markets we booked the Mercure as on the website seemed ideally situated near the markets and the main attractions Edinburgh has to offer. The hotel is in the main street not far from Edinburgh Waverley station. The hotel is main entrance warm and welcoming, the staff were friendly and check in was smooth and speedily done. Our room was on the sixth floor of the hotel we booked the Privilege room with a panoramic view. On entrance, the room looked clean and spacious with extra-large bed chair and sofa, great tea and coffee facilities and a magnificent view of the castle and the Christmas markets, which were just over the road from the hotel. The bathroom had a good selection of toiletries included bath/shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, shower cap, nail file and cotton bubs and a sewing kit and shoe shine. The bath/shower were a good size and the towels were lovely and soft. We went out for dinner as the hotel had a Christmas party booked in the restaurant but we did not mind, as there are so many great places to eat not far from the hotel. At night, the lights from the Christmas market didn’t bother us as the curtains are Thick enough to darken the room and we were not kept u0p by the noise from the Christmas party in the restaurant as we were high enough up in the hotel to avoid it if there was any at all. The bed was comfortable, I had a great night sleep, and the following morning we went down for a great breakfast in the hotel restaurant area, which did not show any sign there, had been a party the night before. The breakfast was a buffet arrangement where you select from cereals yogurt and fruit to the full Scottish breakfast. I had the Scottish breakfast that was all cooked well and tasted delicious. I would recommend this hotel for its location but I would advise that the room with a view it what really make a stay here special.

Room Tip: It is worth the extra to get the room with a veiw, the veiw made the trip extra speical for us.

The hotel has a superb location on Princes street in between Jenners & Marks & Spencer looking out to the castle & the monument to Walter Scott which is the largest monument to a writer in the world.

I had a great view of the castle and the Christmas market - with a huge big wheel just outside my window!

The room was fine with a comfy bed but it has the usual problem of insufficient lighting - hotel should try & read/work in their rooms!. The bathroom was rather tired but at least it was clean although the towels could do with being renewed.

There is free WiFi in the room which is just about ok for emails but you can pay extra to have a faster service - why cant the high speed be free for all guests as it is in Best Western hotels.

Breakfast is taken in the restaurant overlooking Princes street so get there early for a window table. Breakfast is buffet style and wasn't hot with small cold plates to put it on.I suspect that the food temperature would be well below the recommended temp for holding food at and I just wish hotels would go back to serving on demand - at least there was haggis through.

I'd definitely stay here again as the price & location are unbeatable but there needs to be more attention to detail especially with the breakfast.

This hotel is ok for a short stay. The room we had is a bit old and needs some face-lift, especially the bathroom. We were here at the end of September and while it was cool outside, it was very warm inside that we had to use a fan throughout the night. The location is great as it is walking distance to the old town and very close to shops and restaurants.
