This was the worst ever xmas party night,

1. Food was disgusting, burnt brussel sprouts, burnt beef, bland soup.
2 .Limited choice.
3. 2 very small bits of Turkey or Beef, embarrassing!!!!
4. Part of the £32.50 price tag included Tea/Coffee & mints - never seen any!!
5. Way too loud, couldn't have a discussion with anyone without screaming at them.
Service all to pot!!!
Needless to say won't be back, and shouldn't cater for that many people if they cannot cope.

Dear Reviewer,

Understandably your feedback makes for a disappointing read, however it also comes a surprise as we have received in general many positive comments regarding the “Party Nights”, in both food and service quality.

Perhaps you could contact me directly to discuss your feedback.

Me and my husband and little girl stayed at this beautiful hotel for two nights from 30th November we loved it. You can't fault this hotel. The beds are huge the staff are so lovely. The food was nice. Breakfast was worth ten pound. We had a lovely relaxing few days. We can't wait to book up again. Thanks very much. Lisa xx

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night break in Edinburgh, staying at this hotel. We had booked last minute with Easy Breaks at an extremely pleasing price. We were not disappointed and we are very happy to give a top recommendation on all accounts. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious with a king size bed and it was very clean and comfortable and quiet. The meals were excellent and very good value for money, with a good variety of choice on the special £15 allowance menu which went with the deal. The views from the room and restaurant were great. There is also a lounge area beside the restaurant with comfy settees. There is ample car parking and the bus into town stopped 2 minutes from the hotel and took about 30 minutes to reach Princes Street. Unfortunately we did not have time to use the pool or other leisure facilities, but certainly will next time we stay here. A very enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: The room on the first floor looking north west was fine.

I stayed at the Edinburgh Capital for the same event last year, so was booked again as I had enjoyed my stay. I wasn't disappointed.

Same pleasant and helpful staff. Same excellent room (although on this occasion I was on the ground floor rather than overlooking the city) with that comfortable bed. Same excellent food with quality ingredients and same great breakfast to set you on your way.

At some time in the near future, the hotel will need to start a programme of refurbishment as some areas are looking a little dated. I hope they managed this whilst keeping the hotel functioning as efficiently as it does now.

I hope to be back soon for a personal break with my partner. We both love Edinburgh and couldn't think of a better value place to stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room higher up to see the views. Well worth it.

Dear Reviewer,

It’s always good to receive a positive review and even better when we have guests coming back year after year, the Chef will be very pleased to here that the food both at your meal and at breakfast was highlighted in your review.

Also great to read that the team continue to deliver the “pleasant and helpful” service that you mention, they really are a significant asset to our business.

In regards to your point referencing the need for refurbishment I can say that the hotel has a running programme already in place.

Look forward to welcoming you back on a leisure break with your partner.

Regards

Simon

Having previously enjoyed a two-night stay at this hotel in 2009, I had no hesitation in booking it again for a visit to Edinburgh to see "The Lion King." We had booked a two-night, dinner, bed and breakfast package through easy-breaks.com at an extremely attractive price and, since my wife is a very light sleeper, had requested a top-floor twin room in a quiet area of the hotel. I phoned the day prior to our arrival to confirm that our request had been accommodated and was told that we had been allocated a top-floor room as requested. On arrival, we were allocated a second floor room and, when this was queried, we were eventually given the keys to a top-floor room - only to find it was a double rather than the twin we had booked. On our return to Reception, we were advised that there were no twin rooms on the top floor and that we must have booked a double if we had been promised a top-floor room. On checking our original booking, it was confirmed that we had indeed booked a twin room and we were eventually allocated Room 213 on the second floor. To make up for this unfortunate misunderstanding, the very helpful receptionist had a complimentary Pamper Hamper delivered to our room with bathrobes, slippers, wine, chocolates etc and this gesture was much appreciated.

The room was very spacious and had a huge king-size bed with a further single bed and great views to the rear of the hotel from which we could see the Forth Road Bridge and the River Forth in the distance. The only thing missing was a small fridge where we could keep some drinks cool. We noted that the extractor fan in the bathroom did not appear to be functioning and we reported this but were advised that it would come on automatically - it never came on at all during our two night stay!

We had the choice of three menus for our evening meal and were seated at a window table where we had a most enjoyable two-course meal from their Early-Bird menu, although the extra side dishes of vegetables were barely warm. My wife found the window table a little draughty (the air conditioning, I think) and we asked if we could have a specific table-for-two near the rear wall for our meal the following night and were assured that we could have this table.

On arrival at the dining room for our second dinner, we found that we could not have the table we had requested since that entire area had been rearranged to accommodate a party of thirteen and we were instead seated a side table, which my wife again found very draughty - indeed she had to go back to our room for a jacket. We had been seated for at least half-an-hour and had still not been served our starters - soup and duck spring rolls, so we left the dining room and returned to our room, telling the waitress that we had waited long enough.

Within a few minutes, we had a phone call from the Duty Manager offering to serve our meal in the room and giving us an accompanying bottle of wine free of charge. We agreed to this and enjoyed a nice hot meal in our room - despite the earlier inconvenience.

The breakfasts were extremely good - a self service buffet offering everything one could wish for.

We would not hesitate to return to this hotel. It is conveniently on a well served bus route into the city centre, the rooms are large and well maintained (though the floors do creak a little) and the staff are all most polite and helpful. They appear only too happy to compensate their guests for any odd inconveniences they might encounter - full marks for customer service.

Room Tip: If you don't want to hear guest above you walking across a creaky floor, ask for a top-floor roo...

Dear Reviewer,

Thanks you for continuing to choose The Edinburgh Capital Hotel as your preferred hotel of choice when visiting Edinburgh.

I must say that the high level of detail in your feedback makes for a extremely useful overview of the hotels facilities and service standards experienced first hand from our guests, and whilst I am delighted that the team were willing to compensate in regards to service shortfalls, the aim has to be “getting it right first time”, your feedback will certainly prove useful in focusing the team with this in mind.

We look forward to seeing you again in the not to distant future.

Kind Regards

My wife was on buisness and I was acting as taxi driver, we had a large room, with turret windows with fantastic views to the west of Edinburgh. Hotel wi-fi was acessible and free throughout the hotel, our bath and shower facilities were excellent, the bed was huge and very comfortable. Breakfast was very good, evening meal was fair, my wife's lunch which was part of meeting she described as poor, while my smoke salmon sandwiches and chips were excellent. All the staff were very helpful, chatty and proud of their hotel. Good location for getting out and about in Edinburgh. Will be back!

Dear Reviewer,

Very encouraging feedback from you following your recent stay with us, thanks for taking the time to share this with the Trip Advisor community.

Great to read that the room facilities, breakfast and your lunch were all noted as being excellent, disappointed to note that your wife did not enjoy the lunch so much and I will certainly look into this further as we make every effort to gain detailed feedback from all our conference organisers.

Thanks again.

Overall we had a very positive stay at The Edinburgh Capital Hotel,

The beds are very comfortable, the staff are polite and the rooms are clean, spacious and quiet.

This is an older hotel which is noticeable but this does not take anything away from the stay. I would say with the overall decor and style that it is a 3* hotel and not a 4* but it is rated as such so that is not an issue.

You do get free wifi and the staff are happy to resolve any issues.

We had a great view from our room as well which makes a big difference.

Most certainly worth a stay if you are running on a budget.
