Overall a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The hotel is situated a short 2min walk from Haymarket station or 20min form Waverley street station. The bus for the zoo goes from the end of the road as well (number 12). Greeted by friendly receptionists and a porter who can store your luggage before the 3pm check in time. Spacious double bedroom with large bathroom. The shower wasn't very powerful and there is no hairdryer provided but apart from that it was very clean and spacious. Recommended stay for couples on a weekend break.

We spent two nights in this hotel. Aus dollars @ approx $350 per night. We chose the hotel well in advance based on reviews, and location. Location was good, but the hotel was so disappointing.

Reception staff were pleasant, but far from helpful when we enquired where we could park our car, as there was no street parking available due to roadworks for the upcoming Commonwealth Games

As soon as we walked in the hotel, it had a terrible odour. The hallway floor to our room creaked and the smell in the hallway was obnoxious, like ammonia ?

On arrival, Our room had a large wet patch on the carpet. A dirty used towel was left in our bathroom. Staff eventually came & replaced the towel with a clean towel & apology.

There was no air-conditioning, the timber bed varnish had chipped away to bare timber underneath, appearance was tired & dated. We had poor quality sleep due to the creaky old innerspring mattresses which also sagged in the middle, the beds were most uncomfortable, the noise generating from guests in the hallway, and in the morning the roadworks started early, so a peaceful sleep was simply not an option.

The bathroom was also tired & dated, very narrow and needed a really good scrub.

Breakfast was average, food quality was poor, and minimal fresh fruit available.

Wifi was 14.95 pound per day (approx $24 Aud), so we opted for the free Wi-fi in the lobby, which dropped out constantly.

On checkout, we noted our bill had a 3.95 pound (approx $6.60 Aud) charge for mineral water in our room, which we did not use. The Reception staff removed the charge without batting an eyelid ! (We advised Reception staff that we had also had a charge for mineral water on our last bill at the Hilton in Blackpool, which we did not use, and asked if this was 'standard practice' ??)

I would not recommend this hotel.

This was a reward stay as a Diamond Member utilizing two of their Junior Suites for our family. The suites are not actually identical and have different floor plans based upon the location in the hotel. They are very nice and roomy. We did all have free internet and free full Buffett hit breakfast at this location. While not right in the middle of Princes street it is a short ten minute walk to get down to the heart of the city.

We enjoyed the local pubs and scenery and were treated to wonderful weather during our stay. I would highly recommend the MAC Hop on Hop off tour busses if you have not spent much time in Edinburgh. While we have been here many times there was a great deal of information that we did not know about and enjoyed.

The concierge at the hotel was quite helpful and provided good information. This hotel does not have en executive lounge, so instead provides each individual with a single drink ticket for use in the lobby bar.

The reviews for this hotel weren't too good so I wasn't expecting too much so I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. We stayed in a compact room which was plenty big enough for two people. The hotel is across the road from Haymarket Station and about a 20 minute walk from Waverly Station. The area itself is lovely too and we enjoyed walking from the hotel to the castle (again about a 20 minute walk). The staff were friendly and helped us to get to a variety of places (including the airport which is 20 minutes away by bus or tram).
The breakfast was amazing with so much choice and service until 11am which is great if you have had a late night out! The only negative aspect of our stay was that the bedding was thick and heavy, which on a warm night was too hot although the room had a fan this was not enough to keep cool. Sheets or blankets would have been more appropriate. I would definitely stay here again hopefully for longer and one night next time.

Stayed on business and although the location and reception area are good, the rooms are poor. Huge damp/mould patch on the wall, bed with broken springs throughout mattress and pillows which are covered in hair and dirt inside the pillowcase. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and suggest that a program of improving the beds is required along with cleaning the pillows properly. Maybe the maids should spend less time complaining on the corridor about guests in other rooms leaving fake tan on the sheets, and spend more time cleaning the actual rooms!
