Had the pleasure of staying in a family room with my two kids. The room was big clean and the toilet shower was excellent.
The staff were all really helpful, especially the local lady who was working in the bar, couldn't do enough to help you.
My wife left her handbag ( full to the brim as most women's handbags are) she had money gift vouchers etc, we left the hotel at 10 am and they were in contact with us within half an hour to say we had left her bag, I can't thank them enough for their honesty and their help.
The hotel was two minute walk to the theatre we were visiting which aligned with the hotel and the staff being really nice made for a pleasant stay.

Hi only stayed one night here and had a very pleasant stay. My room was big and clean, the bathroom was very clean, had complimentary toiletries and a good shower.
It is about 10-15min walk from the main station, right behind Calton Hill, in general very central and convenient.
It offers free good Wifi, staff was friendly and breakfast was decent for the price.
It was very quiet at night so I had a good rest.
I recommend this hotel.

Very happy with our stay at the Cairn hotel, and would definitely stay here again. We were in a great location about a 10 minute walk from Princes Street. If you are the type of person to pick over little things then don't stay here, there was a crack in the sink and a little bit of paint flaking off the ceiling but that didn't bother us in the slightest.

We were in room 28 in the annex just across the street from the main hotel. We booked a double room and it had a double bed plus single bed (not sure if we had been upgraded), flat screen tv, dressing table and chair with a mirror over it, and a single wardrobe with a full length mirror inside.

The room was clean and spacious and the rooms were cleaned daily. There was shampoo, shower gel, soap, a shoe shine, razor and shave balm and a sewing kit in the room. Also a kettle with usual tea and coffee and shortbread biscuits that were replenished daily :-)
The reception is open 24hrs and we were greeted by a friendly and informative man even when we arrived at midnight.

To sum it up, great hotel at a great price :-D

Stayed here 18th/19th October for weekend break with partner. First the good points..... Excellent location,5 mins walk from the Edinburgh Playhouse and a further 10 mins to the city centre,ALL the staff we spoke to were very friendly and they did go out of their way to assist us. Now the bad points....we stayed in room 301 which although was enough it was very tired and dated, the carpet was horrid!!!! The room was at the top of the stairs before the corridor, which means every time someone opens the corridor door it sounds like they are trying your door. We would stay here again but not in 301.

We are a group of 13 girls on a night out from Bristol staying in Edinburgh.
To start with, on the hotel website it has no information regarding the airport bus. We booked taxis as we thought the bus didn't go to this part of Edinburgh, the bus does stop nearby.
There only ever seemed to be one person on reception, who had to deal with everything including serving at the bar. So service was extremely slow.
As we were such a large party, we booked 11 rooms. These varied greatly. One smelled so musty we had to ask for another room. The hotel only offered this room after an argument.
One room had a mattress that smelled of urine.
Some of the bathrooms, although recently renovated, had very mouldy tiles. The shower in my room was excellent, but in 2 rooms the shower didn't work at all.
One man on reception was extremely rude and shouted at some of our party.
We did not have breakfast as part of our rate, and we are glad that we didn't, the dining room didn't look very nice.
It was good value for money for the rooms that were up to standard, but not for the majority of the rooms. We would not stay here again.

My husband and I had an overnight stay at The Cairn on 28th September. After reading some mixed reviews we arrived with an open mind.
We arrived in Edinburgh much earlier than the check-in time and decided to go straight to the hotel, which is in a great central location, to enquire about leaving our bags somewhere safe. The receptionist was very welcoming and very kindly took our bags and stored them in a locked cupboard. We had a good wander round and went for lunch etc and returned to the hotel late afternoon. Check-in was smooth and efficient. We were delighted with our room:- on the ground floor at the back of the hotel, it was a very large room, spotlessly clean, modern clean en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries, well stocked tea/coffee making facilities and most importantly a large very comfortable bed.
All the staff we had the pleasure of meeting were very pleasant and professional and we enjoyed a couple of relaxing drinks in the bar before going out on the town in the evening.
We did not eat at the hotel however, so can't comment on the food.
Overall we had a great day and night in Edinburgh and if we decide to do it again we will certainly return to The Cairn!!

I stayed for a week on business and found the hotel to very good. My room had recently been re-furbished to a high standard. The bed was comfortable.
I had a basement room at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet.
Breakfast wasn't included in my rate but it was very reasonable.
It is in a good location in the new town and a good base to explore the city.
I would stay again.
