“Perfect wedding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Wow. A few days ago, we held our wedding at the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh - The Roxburghe and we couldn't have asked for a better day. From our initial viewing of the hotel all the way through to our departure as a married couple, the level of service and attention to detail was incredible. Living in London, the complete wedding package was great for us, excellent value for money and a weight off our shoulders knowing it was being arranged for us.

Sometimes at weddings, the food can be a little below par when so many are being catered for. Our food was amazing and guests even came up to us to say how nice it was. We had one guest who made a last minute request for different food and this was sorted in an instant. The two kids at the wedding were given Roxburghe teddy bears, which went down very well! We also had to make a change to our table plan with less than an hour to go before the ceremony as a guest couldn't make it. This was arranged immediately.

We knew the service would be good at the hotel but, from the minute we arrived in Edinburgh on the Thursday to leaving on Tuesday, we were treated like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone took the time to say hello and congratulate us. If we had any kind of request, it was arranged no questions asked (such as moving a different booking to let us use the club lounge for photos or Gavin the concierge offering to collect our cake for us the day before when we joked about how we were going to carry it). We stayed on an extra night in our suite (Albert suite) and would definitely recommend doing that. We can't possibly fit all of our stories about how great the staff were into one review!

If you are planning a wedding in Edinburgh, go and see this hotel for yourself. Kayda, Awinash, Wilfried, Gavin and everyone else at the hotel - a huge thank you from Helen and David. The only negative is that no hotel we go to in the future will ever get close to our experience here.

Room Tip: The Albert Suite (room 244) is huge and has a great view of Charlotte Square gardens.

From the welcome at the door (thank you Linnard) to the fantastic double double bedroom to the very welcome breakfast, the newly re-branded The Roxburghe did not disappoint.
We made 2 late bookings and were lucky enough to get rooms - thank goodness we did!
The other members of our party for the evening in Edinburgh were rightly very jealous!
We will be back!

Room Tip: If you want/need a big room, try for a double double. Worth a premium

Stayed for 3 nights with a friend in May 2014. The concierge, Gavin, rang me up a couple of days earlier to ask if there was anything he could book for us but this maybe because I was a platinum club member. Anyway he was really helpful and managed to get us into the almost fully booked spa and from the moment we arrived, he couldn't do enough for us. The hotel is about 15/20 mins wLk from either Waverley or Haymarket station and is easy to find and is very central in between 2 of the 3 main streets, George Street and Princes Street. It's a lovely looking hotel and our room was large, light and airy. There is a lovely courtyard where you can sit and have drinks although we were out a lot so we didn't. We both had spa treatments with Danielle who had magic hands and was lovely and friendly. The night reception desk, Dimitrius was also very friendly and helpful too. The Scottish breakfast was cooked to order - none of the hot buffet type food but you could have cold buffet food too. Being platinum members we had access to the club lounge which served complimentary wine and beer between 18.30 and 19.30. We only went in once as there was no atmosphere and the room was very flat and unwelcoming but this probably suits some people and it no bother to us as we just didn't bother to go again. This was very different from all the other club lounges that I have been in though, that have been welcoming and friendly. If I went to Edinburgh again, I would definitely stay in the Roxburgh. £105 per room per night B&B

I booked two nights at the crowne plaza and on site car parking. The car park isn't the easiest to find and you do think your are going down roads you shouldn't do, but that's the way into the underground car. If not sure, park and find the concierge.

Room was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the glass atrium. No problems with it at all.

Princess Street is just round the corner from the hotel and the station is less than 10 minutes walk.

Breakfast was very good, but for a hotel of this size, the number of tables was quite small. On Saturday, people were waiting for others to finish and have the tables cleaned as they sat down.

Stayed in both nights and couldn't fault the hotel food.

This hotel has probably one of the best locations in the city being between George Street and Rose Street and a very short walk from Princes Street Gardens. There was an excellent welcome and the concierge was very helpful in getting us to the underground car park - there's no way you'd find it otherwise.
We were in the most basic of the double room types but the bed and bedding were extremely comfortable and there were 2 armchairs (only one in the twin apparently!).
There was a very good selection of cold items at the breakfast buffet but our hot order came before we had finished our cereal which was a bit odd and we saw this happen to other guests on other mornings so it wasn't a one-off. Also, if you want a hot breakfast that's slightly out of the ordinary, like kippers or eggs benedict, then there is a £2.50 surcharge which seemed a bit odd given the quality of the hotel and the amount you are already paying for breakfast.
We had a disappointment on the last night with some poor customer service in the lounge bar but we raised this at reception the following morning and it was dealt with appropriately. Other than that staff were excellent and helpful.
I didn't use the facilities but the pool, sauna and hi-tec gym were a hit with the family.
This hotel also has what might very possibly be the slowest lift in the world - it seemed to be a bit of a joke between guests who were from all over the world so probably well-placed to judge!

Very welcoming staff. Really enjoyed the stay, even if it was only for one night. Location is just right, close enough to the centre but not too noisy from the street. Will be back for a longer stay. Would highly recommend this hotel

Up until the last couple of hours of our 3 days stay here I was looking forward to being able to say that this wonderful hotel had got absolutely everything right. And to be fair to 99.9% of the staff it has - they were without exception (almost) all exceptionally friendly, professional and efficient - couldn't do enough to make our stay one of the best ever in a hotel. The one exception was some mean-minded chef at breakfast who had obviously had a bad night - BUT when the issue was raised with a floor manager it was addressed in a way which demonstrated just how good this hotel is. When I get a bad place or service I blame the management not just the staff so in this case I must say thank you to the management at this Crowne Plaza - the rooms were clean, well equipped and spacious, the service was second to none and the food wonderful.

The hotel is in a central location in the new town, Charlotte Square is an architectural treat, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also houses the official residence of Scotland's First Minister - don't let you put that off, you don't have to meet him. Standing at the junction with George Street the hotel's recently re-designed bar and grill which acts as the hotel's restaurant gets enough passing trade to make it a popular and buzzing venue with a great atmosphere and good food and therefore - rarely the case in many hotels - it is certainly worth eating your lunch and evening meal in house.

There are several lounges or seating areas in the hotel where you can relax -some classic, some modern but all immaculately clean and comfortably furnished.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city and the Crowne Plaza Roxburgh Hotel the place to stay to when you visit.

Thank you all for making it a wonderful memorable stay - and Mr Breakfast chef - thank your Manager and colleagues for me deciding not to post a picture demonstrating your petulance!
