My sister and I visited Edinburgh in February and stayed for 3 nights at the Inn on the Mile. The location was fantastic - we caught the airlink bus from the airport for £7 return and it stopped at Waverley Station which was a 5 minute walk to the hotel. It is situated right in the middle of the Royal Mile with the castle to your left and Holyrood to your right. Our room 3 was on the first floor. It was small but perfectly formed. Very comfortable beds, roomy wardrobe space, a wonderful shower with double basins in the bathroom and lots of helpful accessories to make your stay perfect. Flat screen TV, hairdryer and hair straighteners, an iPod dock, safe, tea and coffee making facilities and free bottles of water and a chocolate biscuit every day. We had breakfast included in our room rate and it was very good - a choice of fruit, cereals, toast and croissants, ham & cheese and/or several choices of cooked breakfast. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly and we were encouraged to eat in the pub in the evening by the 30% off food, 20% off drinks card. We did eat in twice and both meals were great - not fine dining but very presentable pub food at reasonable prices. The bar had a great atmosphere with live music on some nights.
We were slightly concerned that the noise from the bar might disturb us being on the first floor but we were more bothered by traffic noise and early morning bin men than the music. You'd have to weigh up the benefits of being on a higher floor for a quieter night against having to climb the stairs as there isn't a lift. We had a very enjoyable stay and I'd highly recommend this hotel.
Tip: Don't forget your iPod - my iPhone 5 didn't fit the dock so we weren't able to try out the sound system that other reviewers have mentioned.
