We stayed here for 5 nights while on our honeymoon in 2010. Loved it! We were so centrally located it was delightful! We sat out in the verandah and people watched, had breakfast in their upstairs nook, lots of ales in their pub and our bathroom was almost as big as our room, and our room was huge! The room we stayed in was the one with organ tubes, named after the inventor. Not sure if they are still there. We stayed in mid July and the weather was gorgeous. I didn't want to leave! We walked up from the train station, I was 3 months pregnant and had no troubles at all. Everything was just so accessible from our hotel, it was called The Bank Hotel when we visited. Hope some day to return!

Hi Leslie S

"Wow" a five star review from 2010, now that's impressive. We are so happy you remembered to review your visit to our Bank hotel while you were on honeymoon. We have to honest and say that we changed ever so slightly both in our rooms and in our bar and restaurant. We still carry the same values of good food, great service and well the rooms you will just. Have to come back and see they will speak for themselves. We look forward to welcoming back to the Inn on The Mile.

Stayed for two nights in April. Great location at centre of Royal Mile. An Inn with 9 rooms above. Very positive experience. Modern rooms, bright artistic design, very comfortable bed and a bathroom that would be hard to surpass. Considerable thought and imagination clearly went into design. Staff were really helpful without being fussy and provided helpful information. Complimentary drink offered on arrival, bottled water in room and coffee\tea making facilities, nice extras. In summary a great location to explore Edinburgh if you want to stay in heart of city in a small modern hotel.

Room Tip: Stayed on second floor. A little further away from noise from street with a nice view. No lift so on...

The Inn has 9 modern rooms above the restaurant. HUGE en suite in ours (room 9). No elevator, but the friendly staff are more than willing to lug your stuff up for you! There are drop-down screens for sports and also live music. It has an after-work, professional clientele (at least during the week), and is both a foodies' dream and a quiet place to sleep. Good sound insulation I guess!

I stayed here whilst sight seeing and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rooms, and the friendly nature of all persons who I dealt with, I would definitely re visit at a later date knowing what I do now. Many thanks for a top stay, attention to detail was very good.

Have just returned from a two night stay at the Inn on the Mile, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We already knew about the possible problems with noise levels so had asked for an upstairs room, we had room 9 which is right at the very top of the building, yes 73 stairs up! The hotel is small, just 9 rooms, it is very modern, very clean, rooms are a good size and well equipped. Our bathroom, comprising bath ‘tub’, large walk in shower plus his and her sink, looked as though it had come from a bathroom showroom! The bed was huge and very comfortable. Some lovely touches, fresh strawberries coated in chocolate in the room on arrival, good toiletries and even a docking station for the ipod enabling it to run directly into the ceiling and bathroom speakers.

The hotel is situated right in the heart of Edinburgh within easy walking distance of much of the social life of the city, its situated right on the main bus routes etc. This works both to the advantage and disadvantage of the hotel on one hand you are right in the heart of the city close to all the facilities on the other hand you are right in the heart of the city and those facilities continue throughout the whole day bringing with them some degree of noise! The higher up the hotel you go the less the noise, however the upper floor rooms don’t have the benefits of the lovely big windows of the middle rooms so don’t have quite the same view, but, they are quieter!

One area we felt could be improved, and we spoke to the manager about this was around breakfast, we didn’t feel the selection at breakfast time really did justice to this hotel, there was no offer of fresh fruit, of say porridge or croissants. The breakfasts themselves were plentiful though and were freshly and well cooked.

In summary, if you are looking for a hotel with a great central location, you don’t mind the hum from humanity around you, you are comfortable with the stairs, you want a good valued hotel with well-equipped modern rooms then the Inn on the Mile is definitely one you should look at. We would very happily stay again but perhaps would choose rooms 4 5 or 6 and have the better views!

Room Tip: Room 9 is a comfortable well equipped room with a fabulous bathroom but the view along the mile is s...

Hi Densley

Many thanks for taking some time out to review your visit to our hotel, you mentioned so many of the rooms unique selling points and just some of our little extra's to add more to the guest experience. Our location is a great selling point and definitely is for those who want to be in the heart of Edinburgh . We look forward to welcoming you back and recommend you try to book room five on a return visit, my personal favourite.

Thanks again

Me and a friend stayed here last night, and it was wonderful. Our check in was easy enough & the gentleman was kind enough to carry our cases up to the 2nd Floor. The room was amazing, not the biggest but it was all you needed! Large tv on the wall, GHD straighteners, White Company toiletries, and a caramel log to eat with your tea... Wonderful!! I loved the dressing robe & slippers, these came in handy! We had dinner booked in the restaurant & it was superb. Can't fault dinner, it was tremendous! We each had a burger (one was a veggie burger) and then chocolate cake. We had our complimentary drink with dinner. The waitress was lovely too. We had a great sleep, one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in! The next morning however, we walked in to the pub/restaurant & it was busy. We saw the same waiter from yesterday who checked us in & he instantly greeted us by saying 'we are mobbed today' and quickly ushered us to a table. We ordered a fry up & then I helped myself to cornflakes. I couldn't see the spoons though and asked the same waitress from yesterday where they were. She never spoke and just abruptly pointed towards the cornflakes. I eventually found them but found her response rude. We eat cereal and then our fry up arrived. Our table was small and already crowded with cereal bowls. The same waitress moved our bowls to make way for the plates with the fry ups. The bowls were obviously empty and she could have cleared them away but she choose to push them aside instead. Leaving a very crowded table for 2! Our bowls were never cleared away in the end. Then came check out....the pub was heaving, and we stood for a while before a member of staff finally approached us. Even then my friend had to ask someone to flag a member of staff down. There was a girl infront of us waiting to check out and someone else behind us. It was very chaotic and people were nudging by me and hitting my case, bit of a nightmare! To sum it up, fantastic hotel & location! A truly wonderful night but breakfast & check out was a let down. The staff looked harassed & came across as rude due to this yet they were so friendly yesterday. I suppose it's something to be expected as it is a pub/hotel but kind of ruins your stay eating breakfast in this crowded busy atmosphere & trying to check out when stood in a busy bar. Will definitely return though and would highly recommend apart from these issues.

Hi AmandaM

Thanks for your detailed review of your recent weekend visit to our hotel, we are so pleased you rated us so highly after the Sunday morning madness you encountered, I can reassure yourself and anybody reading this review that this was a one off situation where a local sporting fixture was happening and attracted more business than usual, I will raise the issue with service. Again thanks for overseeing the slight hiccup Sunday and glad our service, rooms and little extra made your visit memorable and granted a recommendation from yourself.

We booked a superior double room for two nights and we were aware that we might be on the top floor of 3, with no lift. We arrived an hour and a half before two o clock check in and we were happy to wait while the room was got ready. We had an excellent lunch in the bar but, as our room was still not ready by 2:30, we walked in Edinburgh for an hour or so. When we returned, we were shown to a room on the top floor. The decor was beautiful but the double bed took up most of the room. There was hardly enough wardrobe space for our luggage and we had brought the minimum for 2 nights. There was no soap for hand washing; the bedside drawer wouldn't open and the bedside socket for the reading lamp wouldn't work..
The staff responded immediately and could not have been more helpful when we pointed out the problems. They suggested that we could be moved to a larger room on the first floor and we were very pleased with the result. The room was lovely, extremely modern in design, with attention to detail that extended to the high quality facilities. The bed was huge and comfortable and we were not too bothered by the live music from the pub downstairs. The breakfast menu was varied and the food was good. At all times, the service was excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Inn On The Mile.

Room Tip: Room 2 is stunning.
