“Very nice room, perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

We had a very nice room on the top floor. Clean, fresh, stylish, complete and very nice bathroom. The location of this hotel is perfect for a visit to Edinburgh. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. We were here during the week. Being on the top floor, we did not experience any noise from the pub or the street below.

There were a few hiccups during our stay, which in my opinion are the cause of communication going wrong between the office in Glasgow and the hotel in Edinburgh. When booking through the website of the hotel, I ticked the optional box for fudge in the room extra. This came at a cost of 6 pounds. When we arrived in the room, there was fudge, but it was part of the standard mini bar selection. So why give me the option of selecting fudge during booking? The price of this mini bar fudge was 2,99, by the way. I tried to ask staff if anything had gone wrong, but I did not get the idea that they understood what I was talking about. Fudge selected when booking? I chose to drop it, because I did not think it worth it. Second hiccup was that when checking out, the bill to be settled was substantially higher than the price I had booked the room for. I still had the reservation email, so they made a call to Glasgow and everything was settled in the end. Why I had gone wrong remains a mystery.

Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend the hotel to others.

Room Tip: Higher floors (second or third), might be quieter

Reception is in a pub. Not the friendliest of welcomes, person checking you in is also serving drinks to pub clients. Very nice and sleek room, but overlooking a very busy intersection. Noisy. Average breakfast. Ordered papers never delivered. Struggled to get an invoice upon check out.

Hi collomp

Thanks for your comments regarding your recent visit to our Inn on the Mile hotel, we don't hide the fact we are a pub with rooms above we are proud of our quirkiness in regards to this feature, we do all we can to ensure our check in is of a high standard regardless of the pub features. We will investigate your findings on the newspaper front as what we order is what is delivered on the day, obviously a mis communication somewhere but we will improve this service. Thanks again for your comments and rest assured we will work on your findings.

We chose to stay at this hotel after reading the previous reviews and were not disappointed. We had stayed in a few hotels travelling around Scotland and this hotel lived up to our expectations. It's location is perfect near to the railway station and all the Edinburgh main attractions! There are many good places to eat and drink near by but the food is very good at the hotel which has a good atmosphere and although previous reviews commented on the noise,we were on the first floor and it didn't disturb us! The bedrooms are beautifully furnished and the huge bed was so comfortable! On our arrival we were greeted by Linda who was so friendly and helped carry our luggage up to our room.We were informed that they had had a leak in the ceiling of our toilet and they were waiting for the plumber, for our inconvenience the manager offered us a complimentary breakfast the next morning! The welcome drink on our arrival was also a nice touch! Our only negative point as mentioned by a previous review, was that there is nowhere to put our toiletries in the bathroom only on the floor! We look forward to staying again at this little Gem of a hotel and have already recommended it to family and friends.

Hi Brian T

Thanks for reviewing your recent visit to our hotel, we are happy that it met your expectations. Our location is a huge advantage for the railway station and many tourist attractions. The rooms are brilliantly decorated and the beds wow, they are huge. We will communicate with Linda you found her service welcoming and efficient. We will definitely look into your findings with the storage, thanks for your insight.

This was our first trip to Edinburgh and what a place to start from. The hotel is slap bang in the middle of everything. This is also the sort of small hotel that pay attention to the little details. Not only was there a hairdryer in the room, there was also an iron, ironing board and hair straighteners. Everything was tucked away all neat and tidy too.

When I first read the reviews about the noise I was a little worried, but the traffic sounds are less than an average day in London. The noise from the bar was minimal and the church bells stop at 11pm and start again at 7am, which it turns out, some people can sleep through.

The one worry we did have was with the shower. It was a gorgeous rainfall shower with a lovely tile floor. The tiles didn't have much of a slope and anything more than a quick shower had the water dripping over the lip due to the slow draining.

Fantastic hotel in a wonderful city. The best part of the experience was the staff. Linda, Keron, David, Steph, Chris, Jack, Peter, Abbe, Eithne, and Racheal were wonderful and truly made us feel welcome every time we entered the front door. The trendy and classy pub on the first floor is a plus, and we used it as our stopping point every day. The rooms are large and very clean. The stairs can be tiring, but still the hotel is well worth the experience. We stayed a week and were sorry to leave. The hotel is also centrally located and a short walk to virtually everything in the old town, such as the train station. I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat and can recommend it to anyone considering a trip to Edinburgh, a fabulous city. By the way, we were on the second floor (one floor above the pub), and had no issue with noise whatsoever. Just a great experience all around.

Room Tip: All I know is that the second floor above the pub (Room 5) was fantastic - quiet, large, clean and g...

Convenient, Clean, and Nicely decorated. The Inn is in the center of the Royal Mile, making for convenient touring and access to restaurants. The room was wonderfully stocked with extras. A little noise one night on the street outside - it's at a busy intersection, but that was our only issue. Nice!

Only 9 rooms in this boutique hotel - superb position half way between Holyrood and the Castle. On a busy crossroads, but the noisiest part was the bells pealing from the church over the road. We were on the top floor, and given live music in the bar every evening, not sure how we would have fared on the 1st floor. Check in was a bit vague - it was at a very quiet late morning, and while we didn't expect the room to be ready yet, it took 3 people to work out who was allowed to check us in - one had just started, a second needed to go to serve food, and finally the third managed what should have been a simple process.
The room was great - huge and very comfortable bed with most of the things you'd expect in this style of hotel - ipod dock etc. Walk in shower and enormous bath, and double sink - it would just have been nice if someone had thought that guests do actually want to put their stuff somewhere - there are no shelves, and not even a bin in the bathroom, a surprising lack of attention to detail.
We'd go back there next time we're in Edinburgh.

Room Tip: High floor - but only if you can carry your bags easily - there is no lift!

Hi Sue8312

Thanks for your review of your visit to our hotel, our location really is central to the tourist attractions of Edinburgh. I am sorry the check in wasn't as sharp and efficient as I would expect but I will certainly work on how and why it wasn't. I am glad you enjoyed the room and it's luxourios bathroom. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Inn on the Mile soon.
