i was passing by this place many times, but was never convinced to go in. but last week i did. and it was great!!!
although place looks quite posh prices are really low (!) compere to other cafes in the area. coffee and scone- £2.60!!! and i have mention that scone was served warm with cream, jam and butter.
table by the window is the best- sunny and comfy armchairs.
and also its worth o say that place is children friendly- they have highchairs and baby changing area. and staff is not bothered about buggies and kids playing around.
i really recommend this coffee place to everyone!

(i dont know about the restaurant though)

I've now visited the Leith Walk branch twice, admitedly only for coffee, but am still to be convinced as to what all the fuss is about. On both occasions I have found the service abrupt and slightly rude, and plates/glasses etc hadn't been cleared from several tables.

The cafe area is small and its not clear whether you order at the bar or whether they come to your table. After 10 minutes waiting at our nice wee table by the window (great for people watching), we went up and the huffy man behind the bar took my order. When my latte arrived, the glass was half full but I thought twice of bring this to their attention because of the frosty staff.

This branch is relatively new so it could be attributed to teething problems but their staff could be a LOT friendlier. Won't be rushing back any time soon.

Good food and a nice intimate atmosphere. Perhaps a bit too much use of butter in the brown prawn beure nouise sauce. Starters awesome. Boudain noire with bacon. And vodka smoked salmon. Key lime pie as good as I have had in Florida.

We lunched here in September 2011 with our daughter and 4 year old grand-daughter. The ambience was very relaxed and the food was really wonderful. Service friendly and the place was packed. Yummy desserts too.

I adore cafe Marlayne. Their delicious, fresh food teamed with quaint restaurants make this one of my favourite Edinburgh eateries.
Their hand written menu uses only the freshest/most in-season of ingredients, teamed with a nice selection of French wines. I eat there regularly, mainly in the thistle street restaurant - although I have been to the others which are equally as nice. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, delicious French meal.
