We've breakfasted at Mimi's a few times and have enjoyed their vast slabs of French Toast which are spectacularly good.
This time we tried to have lunch there and found initially that we would have been better to book a table as it was very busy. We were seated fairly quickly next to a sofa with three women with young children, and contrary to other reports, not only were the children well-behaved but the staff seem inclined to be quite friendly towards them. In other words, they perhaps prefer children who are well-behaved as opposed to others.
We ordered coconut-covered chicken (excellent, with outstanding cole slaw) and a hot dog which was pretty disappointing - the menu suggested it was one of their specialties but we found it pretty tasteless and the bun very doughy. To follow we had a truly monstrous wedge of chocolate cake which was very sweet but completely irresistible.
The staff are very friendly, but appear to be pretty disorganised and it can take an age to attract their attention, with a lot of them studiously staring at the ground as they walk through the restaurant. Prices are 'variable', some dishes being a bit more expensive than they might be worth. Overall, stick to the breakfasts here.
