The staff were all extremely helpful and the family room we were in was very spacious and nicely appointed. Dinner menu was rather limited but the food was fresh and well prepared and tasty. Breakfasts were simply wonderful. I grew up in Edinburgh many years ago and remember the old "Simpson" as a dowdy place. It has been transformed into a hotel full of character and is quiet, convenient for bus routes and many historic sites. We would definitely stay there again rather than some of the pricier and supposedly more highly rated hotels we have stayed in before. I can't speak highly enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: We chose a family room #310. Excellent room.

Absolutely loved the hotel! Set in an historic building that (I understand) was once a Nursing home, the hotel has been renovated and I believe deserves at least 4 Stars! Very very attractive building, 10 minutes walk from the Royal Mile and very reasonably priced! Breakfast was very filling although I didnt quite like the sausage! Room very well furnished, though no fridge or safe (who needs a fridge in the North of England?). Weather stayed fine allowing us to catch a bus (bus-stop just round the corner...... No. 35 covers most touristy places!) to see the Royal yacht Britannia! Great stay...would have loved to have stayed longer.....

upon a arrival we enquired if it was okay to book a car. as we'd noticed the car park was limited. person duty said this was fine cleared a spot for us and said the spot was ours. so we went and rented a 400 pound car. only to come back to find the car space was taken. inside we spoke to person on duty who was most unhelpful. now the car is elsewhere. other than that. the room was great. communication between staff and customer. not so

Dear kateandkenny,

Thank you for reviewing your stay. I was disappointed to read that you experienced difficulties parking your car given that our reception team went out of their way and blocked off a space for you whilst you picked up your rental car: a space which was still waiting for you when you brought your car to the hotel. The following day you then decided to take your car out without mentioning to any of the team which meant this space was free for the next person. We have a very small courtyard with limited spaces and this is operated on a first come, first served basis.

I am glad you very much enjoyed the room that you stayed in and I hope you enjoy the rest of travels in Scotland.

Kind regards,

David Clancy

Me and a group of friends came to the hotel on Sunday 17th June and stayed to Tuesday 19th. There was six of us so we used the family rooms which were a great size sleeping 3 in each room. The room was well decorated and well furnished with TV, safe, good sized bathroom and comfy beds. If I had to pick a negative it would be the slightly uncomfortable sofa bed. Reception was quick and friendly and well decorated. For the breakfasts I think they were great there was a choice of cereals (slightly limited) but the cooked breakfast was brilliant and very filling.

Hotel is in a great location, since there was six of us it was cheaper and easier for us to use Central Taxis which picked us up at the hotel and could take us to all the main tourist attractions for under £2 each.

I will definately be looking to stay at the Edinburgh City Hotel next time I come to Edinburgh and have nothing to complain about. Thank you!

Room Tip: If you have a group ask for the family room and get 3 adults in each room and splits the cost we got...

The Edinburgh City Hotel, formerly a Best Western hotel, is located in the centre of Edinburgh (Lauriston Place). All the main sites (castle, museum, Royal Mile, St'Giles Cathedral) are in close walking distance up to 15 minutes. Rooms seem to have been recently refurbished and were crisp and clean. Despite a full house, the 'fairly basic' breakfast nevertheless was a relaxing experience with good service. The Hotel Edinburgh City hotel offers good value for money in a good spot and nice old building. Nothing more, nothing less'; A solid choice.

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our return from the highlands. The room was clean and tidy although a smell of smoke maybe through the air conditioning. The room was basis but the bed was very uncomfortable. Unusually the tv was positioned diagonal to the bed which was very awkward.

The location was perfect and the staff were very helpful.

Lovely scottish breakfast along with buffet which was extensive.

Ideal for a city break but if you want more luxury it maybe not for you.
