My girlfriend brought me to this hotel as a surprise for my birthday and it was more than I could have hoped for. The hotel was clean and the staff were polite, it looks just as it does in the pictures. I definitely will be back next time I am in Edinburgh.

This is the second time we have stayed here, its a lovely hotel not right in the city centre but only about a 10 min walk to the castle and very easy to walk evey were else from here. Good size room and warm! the only thing missing is a fridge in the room. We cheked in early and lucky for us our room was just ready, altough as with most good hotels they will store you bags for you.

Dear GrimGloucestershire,

Thank you for reviewing our hotel after your stay with us during the Christmas period. It is always really pleasing for us when a guest chooses to return after enjoying their first visit, and also great to read your expectations were still met on your return stay. Hopefully you do book again for a future stay and if you do, and you wish a small fridge placed in your room, please give our team a call prior to your stay and we will do our very best to arrange this for you.

Kind regards,

A great choice , this hotel is really nice , lovely rooms and beautifully appointed , the location is a little bit away from everything but not a problem , a short walk to the castle . The staff were very good and helpful , the whole place was clean and well maintained , a kind of heritage building , a great choice , enjoyed our stay .

We stayed for two nights at the Edinburgh City Hotel in May 2013. The staff were polite and friendly, and the room clean and spacious. Although we didn't spend much time in our room, it was more than sufficient and would have been a pleasant place to spend time. It was good value and nice to stay in.

We had an overnight stay in this city hotel but could have stayed longer. We had directions to get there other wise we might not have found it as it is not well signed due to it being a listed building. The staff were very good and they were very helpful. The room we had was large with a king size bed, sofa and coffee table and also a small table and chairs at eating height. It was clean and the bathroom was a good size. The only down side was no parking but you get a discount at the public parking nearby. The breakfast was really good. All the usual help yourself cereals, juice, pastries etc. plus cooked food to order which meant it was fresh and hot when it arrived. Next time we go to Edinburgh we will have a longer stay as it is quite central for most places and just around the corner from the Usher Hall.

My partner and I stayed at the Edinburgh City hotel for 3 nights recently in early January. We picked this hotel based on location, price and reviews. Many times you never know if its going to stack up against the reviews but we were VERY pleasently surprised.

Location wise is very close to Toll Cross and about a 15 minute walk to the castle. There is a Scotmid and Tesco within 5 minutes walk as well as about 100 restaurants so really a great location. Now it is about 20 mins talk from princess street so if that is your destination its a "little" far away but I would not overlook this hotel regardless.

Checking in was fast and efficient. There is a lift if you have lots of suitcases so no need to worry. The rooms, while not huge (no surprise in the UK) are very nicely appointed and the beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are very nice and modern also.

All in all this is a FANTASTIC hotel for the price (we paid about 55 quid a night), great location, wonderful rooms and very nice staff...what more could you want???

Dear Savitar,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review of our hotel after staying with us in January for 3 nights. I can see from your TripAdvisor profile that you are a seasoned traveller so it is very pleasing from my point of view that we were able to exceed your expectations, especially as you had booked after reading many positive reviews of our hotel.

I was also delighted to read that you felt you received very good service from our team and value for money on your overall stay. Even though our rates will fluctuate throughout the year depending on the season and on demand we do our very best to make sure we are priced competitively and that we always offer good value for the product we offer.

Many thanks for your recommendation and hopefully we can welcome you back should you return to Scotland.

Stayed in this hotel two nights for a long weekend break with friends. Spotlessly clean hotel, helpful staff, full Scottish Breakfast good. They give you the option to upgrade your room for £20.00 upon check in. They also offer you the option of full cooked breakfast for £8.00. Good selection for continental breakfast. Takes about 20 minutes to walk into centre of town. Taxis pass on the main road all the time and cost about £5.00 for a trip to town. Bus stop 2 mins walk from hotel. We didn't hear any traffic noise contrary to some reports. We all enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh.
