The hotel is located very conveniently about a 6-minute-walk away from Grassmarket and is also withing walking distance to most attractions in Edinburgh. The room was clean, quite comfortable and very quiet. Breakfast appears to be a little expensive and there are many good places in the area where you can get a good Scottish breakfast for less money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review following your recent stay at The City hotel. I was glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We always have special offers available, including breakfast (available when booking on our website and on arrival at the hotel). At £6.95 per person, for a continental buffet and a full scottish breakfast, this is quite reasonably priced.
We hope to welcome you again soon!

Yours sincerely

Stayed here for a long weekend after reading the reviews on 'TA'.

Hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the 'Royal Mile' and 25 from Princess Street. There is a bus stop about 50 yards from the hotel, but we didn't use this during our stay.

Entry is through the rear of the building due to ongoing work around the front of the hotel. Car park is VERY small, but we were advised of this before booking. Workers vehicles made the car park even smaller.

Advised to use a public (secure), car park a few minutes walk away, for which the hotel has an agreed 20% discount. More than happy with this as the weather changed whilst we were there -loads of snow!

Staff are very helpful, especially David, the Assistant Manager - be aware, he does not like snow-men!!

We were upgraded to a 'superior room' on the 4th floor, which was large, with a king sized bed, table, chairs and a sofa, which I think you may be able to change into another bed. One down-side to the room is the lack of mirrors. The flex of the hair drier in the room does not stretch far enough and even though David did get us another one, again the cable was too short to view a mirror - suggest you take a mirror or another dryer with a long cable!

We had a good time at the City Centre hotel and commend the professionalism of the staff. Thank you all!

We stayed here for 2 nights to enjoy the Hogmanay celebrations. We booked through a third party (Hotelopia) who made a mess of our booking. However, after taking advice from hotel staff the booking was eventually sorted. The reception staff were very pleasant, professional and although we expected to end up in a cupboard the room was small but fine for a short stay. As previous reviews mention the hotel is undergoing some renovations and yes, the entrance leaves a lot to be desired and the scaffolidng outside the window is unsightly but it served our needs adequately. Its within walking distance of the sights of Edinburgh, the breakfast was relaxed and something for everyone.

comfortable and elegant hotel in the city of Edinburgh,
not exactly in the city center, but still possible to walk
to Edinburgh Castle, Princess Street Shopping Area
and Edinburgh Royal Mile etc.
puplic transportation nearby, but somewhat difficult to connect
to airport bus link.
the hotel is perfect for a city break, to discover the sights
and to relax, restaurants, shops and bistros / pubs are closeby.
location of hotel guarantees quiet rooms, which are comfortable and spacous
with large ensuite bathroom. restaurant offers full range of breakfast options
prepared to order.

We stayed here as they have an arrangement with the Edinburgh Clinic. My partner was travelling up for a medical procdure in Scotland.

She has MS and mobility issues, not completely wheelchair bound but an accessible room on the ground floor with level access from the car park is a great help.

I'd describe this as a business hotel, great if you're looking for a base to visit the sights of Edinburgh. There's not a great deal in the hotel itself itself, but it has the essentials - Restaurant, Bar and somewhere to sleep.

All the staff were pleasant, the food was good and value for money, overall, Value for money all round. Plus free internet, which is something every hotel should have these days.

Our room was a little tired, but the hotel was undergound a refurb on the top floor as we were there, we observed brand new fitting and beds arriving in all the rooms so I imagine in a few months the place will be like new new.

Our room (102) lacked storage, there was a wardrobe, but not a wardrobe as you and I would understand it, we got four coats in there and it was full.

Overall great if you need a clean and friendly place to get your head down without busting the bank...if you want marble, glass and polish - Stay at the Sheraton up the road and pay three times as much.

Having arrived too early to check in we left our luggage at the hotel and walked into town. Each of the reception staff we dealt with during our stay were extremely friendly and helpful. Although normally the walk into the city would be a relatively short one, the snowy conditions made it tricky, so we got the bus back. At £1.20 you can't complain! In the evening we got a taxi into town and I believe this was around £6 - £7.
The hotel itself was fine, only let down by the fact you enter via the rear of the building passing rubbish bins and skips which is a little offputting.
The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely - help yourself to continental buffet, the hot breakfast is then cooked to order.
I would definitely consider returning to this hotel on my next visit to Edinburgh.

I would just like to say my partner and i have just got back from a 3 night break with our 1 year old son and i was so impressed with the warm welcome we had and how child friendly the hotel was it certainley put us more at ease, nothing was to much trouble where the little one was concerned and it made are break very memorable. The location was great, really could not fault it at all and if i was making another trip with my son i would certainley be using the same hotel.
