“As expected - good Marriott standard”
Reviewed 1 September 2010

My wife, I and our 2 young children under 10 spent the bank holiday weekend in Edinburgh and stayed at the Marriott. Granted, it is away from town, yet the 100 express bus service is very convenient and easy. An Italian and a Chinese restaurant are within walking distance as is the ubiquitous MacDonalds.
The hotel is clean and a large double room with 2 double beds was enough for us. The boutique decor is quite pleasing. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was refreshing. The breakfast was reasonable but unless asked for, you do not get a choice.
Service was excellent, the staff extremely courteous and helpful especially the concierge desk.
There was one snag though. After a long day at the Royal Mile, we settled down in our room to watch a pay family movie. However, it stopped midway and we couldn't watch the end. When asked, the hotel told me that the service is run by a contracted company and this has happened in the past. They were of course decent enough by promising to return the money. I intend to lodge a formal complaint and I do feel that the hotel should discontinue their contract and of course they do hold vicarious responsibility.
And I will agree with one of the reviewers that internet access is ridiculously priced and should be free
I am a Marriott member and overall this one in Edinburgh has not let me down for one of the most relaxing holidays we have had.

After a disastrous experience with a self-catering apartment, we rang the Marriott on the off chance that they might fit us in for 3 nights beginning that very night. The reservation staff were very helpful and were able to find us a king size room over a Festival weekend at short notice! Our stay was enjoyable, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the room was everything we needed. The hotel is well out of the city centre, but the taxi service was excellent.

We stayed at two hotels while in Edinburgh, one in the city, and this one just outside Edinburgh, between the city and the airport. We found that the Mariott outside Edinburgh had larger more comfortable rooms at a lower price, and the downside of not being in the city was easily offset by the number 100 Express bus that stopped right in front of the hotel and ran every 10 minutes, for a quick and inexpensive ride into city center. The hotel has great service and amenities, nice bar, great pool & spa, and comfortable rooms. Excellent value for Edinburgh!!

Rooms were very clean and modern. Great breakfast. Good service at checkin but spotty room service. Nice bar. Overall, very good experience. But, my complaint with all European MArriott's is rdiculous rates for internet access. Robbery.

This was the only hotel of 3 that we stayed at that would let us book a double room for a family of four on our trip to Scotland. (otherwise we had to split the family apart & book two separate rooms doubling the cost of our vacation). This hotel was extremely convenient to the airport & Edinburgh as it is situated right on the bus route. To go into town, you simply cross the street & for 1,20 (Exact change) gets you there. To go to the airport, stay on the hotel side of the street to catch the "Airlink" Bus. Rooms are what is to be expected at a Marriott chain. Ours happen to include a full buffet which had everything & the service was good with coffee immediately brought over. The hotel "Pub" was a little slow but there might have been a staff shift change. Was disappointed in their "Sticky Toffee Pudding" as everyone here in the US says its a must try. All the hotel was friendly & helpful from the bell hop, reception, & wait staff.

The good reviews on trip advisor caused me to book into this hotel. I found the hotel ok but nothing out of the ordinary.
It is near to the airport but some way from the centre of town. Maybe because the one night I stayed there was just before the Edinburgh festival, but £130 for this standard of hotel was expensive. The rooms were ok and I got a good night's sleep but the window in the room was small leading to little natural light.
The buffet breakfast was average with limited choice.
All the staff were helpful and the large number of rabbits scurrying around the car park was amusing.

We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the airport because we had to catch a 6:30 am flight home the next day. We booked and prepaid two double rooms for one night through our travel agent -- one for our teenage daughters and one for my husband and me. Upon arrival at 9pm, we checked into our rooms and discovered that each room had two double beds. Since we were trying to travel on a budget, I immediately went to Reception to ask about the possibility of returning one of the rooms. Both receptionists were pleasant and very helpful. They called our travel agent and even though they could not get through, they told us they would not bill the agent for the extra room. We then inquired about breakfast, which was included in the price we paid, but were informed that the breakfast buffet would not be available until much later than our checkout time of 4:30 am. However, they offered us a continental breakfast, which was more than adequate. We were very, very grateful to the staff for all their help and would stay here again.
