“Dont eat here”
Reviewed 28 September 2013 via mobile

Made the fatal mistake of eating here on a saturday afternoon. Got charged full price for half a meal with no appology. Scones tasted like they had been propping the doors open for at least a month. Staff totally disorgansied and wasnt that cheap..in short if you need food eat elsewhere

Our family of 4 share a private room with ensuite. The hostel was purpose built and has lifts to the higher floors. Great canteen for all meals.
It was well managed with noise at night keep to a minimum.
Parking on the street is subject to meters. To obtain free car parking you need to drive 500 meters and park in residential area.
Location is good to access the city.

Room Tip: You need change to feed expensive parking meters. The banks will not provide change to non customer...

Brilliant price but was pleasantly surprised by how clean, bright and well equipped everything was. There's a basement with a kitchen and seating; the ground floor has a cafe and reception and our room was twin beds with THE BEST SHOWER I HAVE EVER USED!!!! Clean and with hair driers and towels to hire. Highly recommended.

A good clean hotel which is close to many local tourist spots. Staff were very friendly and polite and the service was really good. I would recommend this hostel to everyone. The local transport links are close and regular.

Hi,

During the Summer Break, we had the opportunity to stay in the Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel. We stayed from the 25th to 27th July. We paid around 65 pounds per person for a four-people room. The hostel is very closed from the centre of Edinburgh, about fifteen minutes by foot. You have a easy access to the bus which goes to the airport, you pay 2 pounds for a one-way ticket.
The hostel itself is equiped with an Internet connection (you pay 1 pound for 30 minutes of connection), a kitchen in the ground floor where you can cook your own meals (plates and cutlery are provided) but the hostel has also a coffee corner and a restaurant where you can order your breakfast and meals.
The room we had was very clean and big enough for the staying. If you don't have a towel, the reception will provide it for you. You can also use the washing machine.
If you need to buy some groceries, there is a TESCO closed from the hostel (about 10 minutes by foot). The staff was very nice and explained all you need to make your staying confortable.
So we enjoyed our staying in the city! Definitely we have to come back :)

The room was great, a bit noisy but super clean and spacious. The guy we were lucky to get at reception when we first came in was an absolute darling (I forget your name, but I'd totally marry you!), we were so lucky we got him and not the other one (a grumpy, skinny dude) as he instantly upgraded us to a better room and was so helpful and sweet.

The food available in the adjoining cafe/restaurant was really good and REALLY well priced as well. The breakfast included was tasty and complete. The communal kitchen also made a big difference to us.

The downside of this hostel - besides the business of being on a major street and being a bit of a hike to and from the train station (especially with luggage!) - was that the wifi was not free and the system was down until our last day, making communication even harder than it had been previously.
