“Reasonable place to explore the city”
Reviewed 11 June 2012 via mobile

Pros: close to the city centre, view at Edi castle, friendly staff, tasty breakfast, large room with chairs, cosy atmosphere, payable via card with no surcharge.

Cons: unsufficient water pressure in shower, junky front yard, hall full of cigarette smoke, 30-45min timeframe for breakfast, lousy room doorlock.

My wife & I stayed here for 2 nights.
We had a room on the top floor with ensuite. There was a choice of breakfasts, which was nice (you fill in a form the night before). I had a cooked breakfast & my wife had yoghurt & fruit. Both very good.
The guest house was in a good location. About 5 mins walk to the Grassmarket area (lots of bars, restaurants) & 10 mins walk to Princes St. We were tired after walking all around the castle, so we got a bus back, which was £1.40 each (tip: make sure you have exact change, otherwise you'll encounter a grumpy Scottish bus driver!).
We got a taxi to/from the airport, which cost about £18 each-way.
We also did a day tour to the Highlands, which I can thoroughly recommend as the scenery is spectacular. This was organised through the owners and included a pick-up from the guest house.
Overall, extremely hard to fault the place really, especially as the price was very competitive.

It was a short trip and we, mother and daughter, stayed 3 nights in this likable house and very nice room, not to small, enough space for 2 persons. The two woman offered a perfect service, very good choice for breakfast, all the house and our room was very clean and pretty. The house is in an perfect area near the inner city, silent environment, foot-walk to all important highlights of the city and a bus-connection to the airport. We would like to come again everytime!

We arrived late night from the airport and it was cold, we turned the corner and saw this lovely lit up house and it was as cosy as it looked. Great b&b, they were just lovely accommodating people. I have a gluten intolerence and took my own bread, but I didn't need it, they aready had some! Really great big breakfasts and lovely, cosy bedrooms. We went for a few nights over New Year and it was so much better than we were expecting as we had, had a real prob trying to find a place that wasn't totally booked up. I would stay there again and absolutely recommend it. They even left a small present for us on new years eve, small bottle of whisky and some treats. Thank you and I'm sorry I didn't try the haggis! Perhaps next time?

Amaryllis Guest House provided us with the perfect weekend that we needed. The two ladies who run the B&B are very polite and friendly, and offered us great tips on all that Edinburgh has to offer. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast on both our mornings there was tasty and served quickly. Perhaps above all else the location is superb; a five minute walk to the Meadows, a mere ten minute walk to Princess Street, and about twenty minutes to the Royal Mile. Its centrality meant that we could easily hop on a bus to Edinburgh's famous attractions... such as the zoo, yes, we saw the pandas! It was a lovely stay for very good value.

My husband and I found Amaryllis Guest House to be exactly what we wanted: clean, comfortable, affordable, and with a friendly staff. We had a double ensuite room that served our needs perfectly. Every day we walked to the city center, which isn't far off, and enjoyed the sights of Edinburgh. On the day we left, our host was particularly helpful by getting us an early breakfast so we could make our train. I would recommend Amaryllis Guest House to anyone traveling to Edinburgh.

We stayed for 2 nights in October 2011 and found a correct value for money. Our room was on the top floor, clean and big enough for the average B&B but the bathroom was very small. Breakfast was OK but nothing more. The place is close to the centre (both Princess Street and Royal old mile) and very well served by public transport. Overall, if you’re looking for a budget accommodation with easy access to the centre, this place can be for you.
