“Beautiful and quiet for week break stay”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

We spent 4 nights here for our break visiting Scotland. Being distanced about a mile from the city centre means that it is in the quieter end of town, and with regular buses nearby, it's perfect for those who don't always fancy the walk.

Glenalmond house is beautiful from the front and is just as wonderful inside, the furniture and decor give it a sense of luxury.

Fiona and Jimmy are wonderful hosts and are very helpful, and when you hear Jimmy's laugh in the morning, it certainly puts a smile on your face.

We were staying in room 4, which is on the ground floor. The room is equipped with everything you need. The bed is a little on the hard side, but still comfortable. The furniture is beautiful and the en-suite is nicely decorated and practical. The only thing I would warn is to watch your hand when you're closing the door from the inside as it is a little tight for space between the handle and door frame, quite a few knuckles got bashed during out visit.

The breakfasts were outstanding and you were never hungry before lunch after having them! There is a wide range of choice from cooked breakfast to pancakes and waffles, including self serve of juices, yoghurts and cereals. We had a cooked breakfast every morning and enjoyed it everyday.

We are both smokers, so both respected the no smoking policy within the house, there is an outside ashtray out the front of the house, which is out of the elements and not a burden to use.

Thank you Fiona and Jimmy for a wonderful stay.

Stayed in RM 6 (4 Poster Room) for 3 nights.

The house is a traditional Edinburgh house retaining most orginal features and character. Well run with clean well equiped rooms and ensuite.

A range of excellent Breakfast options and great location make this an excellent base to explore Edinburgh old town from.

We had a pleasant 2 days stay here. Very clean, very friendly and great breakfast. Handy for a walk or getting a bus into the centre and you can leave your car in the car park.
Just one negative for us was the style of furniture in the room, as the size and shape of it meant we banged our shins and knees on it on numerous occasions.

We enjoyed our stay with Fiona and Jimmy in their beautifully decorated house. Breakfast was scrumptious!
The center of Edinburgh is within walking distance but the bus stop is just outside the house if necessary. We came by car and the address is easy to find. am already planning my next stay with the lovely couple!

A chance find (though we did check on Trip Advisor), a great B&B close-ish to the centre of town. A twenty five minute walk or a couple of minute by bus from just outside the house.
We enjoyed just about all the options on the breakfast menu and they were all good, even if you did have to choose the evening before. The room we had, on the ground floor, was very comfortable and well furnished. The bathroom was good and very clean. Very friendly hosts, Fiona and Jimmy, who where also very helpful in planning our sightseeing. The whole house has been beautifully restored, to a very high standard. Great place to be based for time in Edinburgh. We will return!

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room which was excellent, but we got the impression from other guests all the...

The property's website and Rick Steves' recommendation easily convinced our travel party of four that the Glenalmond House should be our Edinburgh headquarters for five nights. Upon meeting our hosts, Fiona and Jimmy, we knew we had made the right the decision. We were welcomed at 11 AM from the airport and were surprised to find that our rooms were ready, something we greatly appreciated, but hardly expected. The website contained explicit directions to the B&B from the airport, and we were delighted to find that our hosts welcomed guests early and would store baggage until rooms could be cleaned, thus allowing travelers to begin their exploration of the city. The city bus was our main mode of transportation to the city, and Fiona provided us with information and maps to enable us to travel freely in the city. Breakfasts were huge and expertly prepared; we would highly recommend Jimmy's omelet. The rooms compared favorably with others in size on our trip and were always clean. On the morning we were to depart Edinburgh, Jimmy was kind enough to call a cab, which was cheaper than the one we took from the airport. Should we ever return to Edinburgh, we would not hesitate to book rooms at the Glenalmond House.

A terrific B&B with large rooms, comfy beds, great varied breakfast, and even a lounge to hang out in. We had 2 rooms as we have 3 teenagers and were just delighted with our stay. A short bus ride gets you into town where all the action and great pubs are located. A true gem.
