My boyfriend and I are from Glasgow, young, students and had saved up hard to come and stay at The Rutland for our 1 year anniversiry. We treated ourselves to a Junior Suite (Room 12) I very much doubt that we are anything like their usual clientle.
However everything was impeccable. We were shown to our room by a very helpful young woman manning the reception - which even has thrones in it!, when we got to our rooms she explained about the air conditioning etc and handed over a booklet about the hotels' services. There were muffins waiting on the bed- a very nice touch I thought.
My boyfriend and I were frankly overwhelmed by the room. Personally we had never stayed or been able to afford luxury like we seen in that hotel before. Simply stunning. Humungous bed, the best sleep Ive had in years, beautiful decor and( the overall hotel decor was very elegant and quirky) and we could even see Edinburgh Castle through our little corner window ( We were obviously in the very top of the building) which was lovely to look at when night fell and it was all illuminated.
The hotel itself is very place situated, just on the corner of a street sitting siagonally facing the House of Frasers at one end of Princess Street, I mean you could see the Castle from our room! No way of anyone not being able to find this hotel if lost or not knowing Edinburgh. The staff were very polite and respective throughout and the night we decided to order room-service (quite late on) the woman on the other end was brilliant and quite funny. Once ordered they even phoned us back to personally apoligize that the food would be a little late. Although in our opinion we didnt wait long at all and the food was delicious! And a personal thankyou to the woman who carried that huge tray of food all the way up to the top of the hotel!
All in all, the best experience we have ever had. Top service, brilliant qaulitity and quite resonably priced for what you get. I didnt want to go home! The Rutland Hotel deserves 1st place!
