My partner and I stayed in a castle view room. The deco was contemporary baroque with black colour scheme. The lamps and chandelier were also in black with was coordinated with the fabric in the bed board and the curtain. The king size bed was soft and comfortable. The sheets and duvet were of high quality. Everything were sparkling clean.

The bathroom was done in white and was roomy with a jacuzzi.

It appears that no expenses had been spared in decorating this room.

The only glitches were there was no socket outlet at the work table so I had to charge my computer from the bed. The glass enclosure at the jacuzzi was tiny and everytime I took a shower the bathroom floor got wet. The wifi was slow. But all this could be expected from boutique hotels were it is all so common that ergonomic and small things got overlooked.

I totally enjoyed my stay and all staff I met were friendly. I would recommend this place if you like hotels with characters.

Thanks so much for leaving a review, we always appreciate feedback from our guests. Glad that you liked the decor, customer service and attention to detail in your room. We have noted your point about the shower screen and sockets; we now have extension leads available to borrow from Reception and we are looking into the shower screen size. During the week of your stay we were having issues with the wifi connection - we now have new wifi hubs and cabling so this issue has been resolved. Thanks again for your comments and feedback!

We enjoyed a great stay here celebrating a 50th birthday. Very good location, we were upgraded to a junior suite. Food good - though not spectacular - excellent and friendly service. Would definateley stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at The Rutland for 2 nights in June. We had been to Edinburgh a couple of times before and knew that the hotel was in a good location for sight-seeing, restaurants and shopping. We had a junior suite and the room was lovely, very modern and a nice large bathroom. We ate breakfast the Rutland bar the first morning, and although the food was good (very small menu), it took almost an hour to get our food, the service was very slow. We also ate at the hotel restaurant on our second night and very much enjoyed the food. The service was very good and the food was excellent. I would return to this hotel again (but I would have breakfast at one of the numerous other restaurants in the area).

Rooms were spacious and bed was very comfortable. Nice to have added luxuries like hair straigtheners in the room and homemade shortbread and muffins in the room. We had breakfast in the hotel both mornings and it was very resonably priced and also very tasty. We also ate in the restaurant which was amazing and again reasonably priced (especially as guests get 20% off of their food from the a-la-carte menu). Location was very central and yet quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. I would have expected a turndown service in the evenings for a hotel of this price and quality but that is only a minor point and I'd still give it 5 stars.

It's pretty much impossible to fault this hotel; the location, the rooms, the staff, everything was absolutely exemplary. Every member of staff went above and beyond, all were friendly, all seemed genuinely interested in the answer to "how was your day", rather then it being just a phrase to trot out. The breakfast was out of this world, the cocktails in the bar the same, and the restaurant service and food was again to a very high standard. It was also great to see that the prices were very reasonable - £3 for a bottle of Peroni beer in the minibar for instance; i've seen hotels shamelessly mark these up to £5 without blinking ! 2 full breakfasts with coffee and tea was £20 which really isnt bad at all - we didnt need anything else until the evening. Little touches like real coffee in the room, the stereo system in the ceiling with inputs for an ipod, real milk in the mini bar fridge ! Simple things that other hotels could do but just dont. Ive racked my brain for a downside and really struggle; Book this hotel without a second thought.

Our stay in The Rutland was brilliant. Some highlights for me included; the jacuzzi bath tub; surround sound tv and radio; muffins on arrival; GHD Hair straighteners and both shampoo and conditioner. I know the latter items might not appeal to everyone, but it was perfect for me as I had flown to Edinburgh and I had just taken hand luggage so the limits on liquids meant that I didn't bring my own shampoo and conditioner or hair dryer or GHDs. The hotel had thought of this for their guests and provided everything that they might need. The bed was seriously comfortable! The location was fantastic and very close to the castle. The bar downstairs was great with some delicious cocktails and the restaurant (where we got a discount because we stayed in the hotel), was amazing. I had haggis and onion tart for starter, sea trout for main and the cheeseboard for afters, the cheeseboard was delicious with a really good selection of British Cheeses! Also ordered room service one evening, which was quick and efficient and very tasty. Overall, we had a fantastic stay here and it was hard to leave the room to go exploring the city!!!
