“Edinburgh at its best.”

Haste ye back! On a recent visit to Edinburgh the hotel we had aranged had overbooked and we were left without accomodation. The tourist board gave us the name of a number of options one of which was the Clan Campbell in Brunswick Srtreet a 10 min. walk from Princess Street.
The welcome was warm and friendly the rooms spacious with fresh cotton sheets, plenty of hot water and towels.
Large portions for of English breakfast or a choice of continental and no end of coffee.
The price we paid for our family room could not have been bettered.
For a family we would highly recommend it.

This is our 3rd stay at Clan Campbell Hotel in the last few years and hopefully there will be many more to come. We love our room (the 1st floor triple) with super high ceilings, a large window overlooking the interior garden, a spotless bathroom with great water pressure. John (the owner) is invariably very hospitable and makes it a pleasure to hang out in the lounge, watching TV, drinking and socialising with other travelers.

The breakfast is generous and well prepared, the check-out policy very lenient (11 am is the latest I was ever able to check out from a B&B in UK), the location convenient and the price is easy on the wallet. The hotel is located on Brunswuick St, not far from London Rd and Leith Walk intersection. It is about a 15 minute walk to the beginning of the Princes St and Waverley Station, not far from St. Andrews Square (bus connections to the rest of Scotland). We mostly walked to Princes St and Holyrood on our previous trips, this time we made extensive use of frequent buses (just a few stops).

Overall, Clan Campbell is a great value for money, with well appointed rooms, friendly service, good location and excellent hospitality. We hope to return in 2006.

This is a small, inexpensive hotel (by Edinburgh standards) in the Calton Hill area of Edinburgh. The room was large, clean and had a good bed and shower. Our room was on the 2nd floor (3rd American). There is no lift, but the staircase is large and easily negotiated with luggage. The building is Georgian and has a long and interesting history, having been built at the end of the development of Edinburgh's New Town.

The service was very friendly. While we were parking the car, our luggage was carried to our room without our asking. The breakfast was generous and very good. There is a downstairs bar and bookcases filled with interesting books. Our room included some useful, up to date, guidebooks (Timeout, Lonely Planet) which was a nice touch.

The location, near Calton Hill, might not be considered the most central, but we were able to walk everywhere without any problem. You can begin your day with a hike up Calton hill in less than 10 minutes and see the whole city. If you don't want to climb the hill, you can walk the streets and be on Princes street in 15 minutes. A good place to stay if you don't want to spend too much money.
