Owner description: The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty The Queen. The palace stands at the end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile against the spectacular backdrop of Arthur's Seat. This fine palace is closely associated with Scotland's rich history and is used by The Queen when carrying out official engagements in Scotland. The State Apartments reflect the changing tastes of successive monarchs, and are renowned for their fine plasterwork ceilings and unrivalled collection of Brussels tapestries. They are furnished with numerous fine paintings and other works of art, many of which have long associations with Holyroodhouse. The visit to Holyroodhouse includes Mary, Queen of Scots' Chambers and the Darnley Rooms, the setting for many dramatic episodes in Mary's short and turbulent reign. In the Palace's west corner tower are Mary's Bedchamber, described as 'the most famous room in Scotland', and her Outer Chamber, the scene of the murder of her Italian secretary, David Rizzio'. During the summer months, you can join a guided tour of Holyrood Abbey, which lies adjacent to the Palace in the spectacular setting of Arthur's Seat. Escorted by Wardens dressed in their ancient hunting Stewart tartan, you will learn about the building's extraordinary history.

A very interesting visit. The rooms are all different and there's lots to see. A beautiful building and gardens and the rooms have lots of interest. a well run visitor attraction.

just returned from 4 nights in Edinburgh where we visited the Palace of Holyroodhouse and had a great time. Loads to see, the Audio tour is included in the price which is nice as this gives you so much more detail on things you'd miss otherwise. Had a lovely fresh cream and strawberry scone in the cafe/restaurant after, all in all a nice day out, well worth the entry price.

We arrived at 4:20 pm and was told last entrance at 4:15. It is open until 6 pm and I pleaded with a blonde heavyset woman to please let us in as we were there
for 1 day and probably never to be back and we would leave early even. She said she would check with manager then came back said no. Turns out she was was the manager. Left a bad taste in my mouth. The Queen can keep her homes and prices she puts to tour them and the nasty managers to boot.

This review is not the tour of the Palace which was excellent.

The ticket sales only had two staff and a huge number of tourists .
When the staff changed shifts they barely said hello to each other.
The tourists were grumbling at the long wait. Why not have 4 ticket desks.
I liked the cafe but the cafe staff were very serious , didn't meet my eye or smile.
Perhaps some music in the background.
The shop staff and headset staff/ entrance to the palace were friendly.
Why not have all the staff friendlier, people are on holiday. They notice!

We loved the guided tour through the gardens!
In the palace it all looks authentic. The children also liked it very much.
We 'lost' our old mother, the staff was very helpfull to find her back!
