Description: An Edinburgh landmark, The Old Waverley Hotel is home to Cranstons, a beautiful modern Scottish restaurant open to visiting diners as well as guests. Pioneering a new wave of contemporary Scottish food with creativity and character, Cranstons kitchen offers a menu of treats that manage to not only reflect Caledonian tradition by using locally sourced produce and those ingredients so synonymous with Scotland haggis, whiskey, turnips but to present the diner with something utterly new, exciting and original. It really is a true taste of the country for the discerning foodie. In the very same way that its menu blends old and new, Cranstons setting is the perfect combination of up to date style and old world character. Set in one of Edinburghs most prestigious buildings, on the famed Princes Street, the dining room is nonetheless comfortably new in its styling. Offering unsurpassed views of the castle and Princes Street gardens through wide windows, the room is bathed in natural light thanks in no small part to the light, neutral dcor that brings original features such as plasterwork ceilings and Corinthian pillars in to the 21st century.

We dined here on a Monday evening and for the most part of our meal were the only diners which is a real shame as the quality of food on offer and picturesque location really deserve better. A set menu of 5 starters/Mains/desserts is somewhat limited but the choices are simple and not fussy but well prepared and delicious .
At £20 for two courses or £23 for three it was at a standard that was above the price and you can't ask for much more than that ! My 1 criticism would be that as we were the only diners the service was rather erratic as the three staff on duty would just disappear for quite long periods , when they were there they were attentive and friendly though .
I would recommend a visit just for the sticky toffee pudding alone!

Had lunch in the bar, lovely room ith stunning views of Princes Street. Sandwiches were better than we expected, and resonably priced, Chicken burger was a full breast of chicken, well cooked and presented. A good choice for somewhere to take a break from the shops and have lunch.

Excellent food with an imaginative flair. A pleasant suprise for a 3 star hotel. Try and get a window table and look out onto Princes Street, the park and up to the old town whilst you eat.

Beautifully presented food, good taste and very polite - but a little confused - waitress. All in all a very good experience and value. Our rooms was also of high standard for the price and compared to nearby competition.
