We went looking for Sandy Bells because of the promise of live folk music, we were'nt to be disappointed. Not only was there at least 10 musicians, we were joined by four Vikings in full dress who would be taking part in the torch light parade. Really good atmosphere we will definitely be back.

We went because the place was recommended by Rick Steve and also the TI at Edinburgh. We went earlier than the show time which is 9:30. Met great local people to chat with until the show. For the show, there were about ten people jamming the folk music: one border pipe, one guitar, one cittern (not Indian sitar), ... etc. The music was fun and dynamic.

About food, we didn't know they had soup, so we just munched on dry snacks and later we were very happy to order delicious veggie soup. Other than soup, we tried different beers, one whisky, different types of coffee, cider, etc. We are very happy with the pub.

We stopped by on a Saturday night thinking that we could hear some traditional Scottish music. I guess you could say that they did offer the music if you consider two old guys sitting at one of the tables, one playing a violin and one playing a guitar with no microphone or speakers, traditional music.

Place was extremely crowded, load and hot. There were not seats.

Cannot comment on the food as we were only there for the music and drinks.

My husband and I went to Sandy Bells a few times while in Edinburgh. Friendly bar staff and loved the local feel. We missed the music but the drink prices were the cheapest around. Just a nice little pub in Edinburgh.

Stopped by after a recommendation by a friend. There was no scheduled music that day, but there were some people playing. Not very big, and it was definitely crowded. Fairly good beer selection. Not really a good place to go by oneself; would have been better with a few friends.
