“A fantastic stay in a great location”
Reviewed 1 March 2011

Had a wonderful stay at the Town House. Location is perfect for exploring all the tourist attractions in and around Edinburgh City centre. The rooms are very clean and beautifully appointed, and the breakfast was first rate. The owner (Susan) couldn’t have been more friendly or attentive. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending this guest house to anyone.

We stayed here at the time of the festival. The price at £120- a night for a room with one double bed and a shower was excessive.
The breakfast was disappointing. The breakfast room was cramped and the carpet dirty. The positioning of the fruit juice /cereal etc in the busy narrow passageway made it difficult to serve yourself.
Certainly would never stay here again.

This b&b is very professionally managed. Travelling with 5 friends so was not enough room for us all in the house. The owners have another apartment down the road. Although the main house has a lot of character the annex is more like an IKEA apartment. This is not a complaint, in fact I liked staying here as the rooms were large and comfortable with a shared living room. The down side to the annex is that in the morning it is a couple of blocks walk to the main house for breakfast, there is no individual TV in the rooms, and the main TV in the living area was not working properly and has probably not worked properly for ages. There did seem to be any urgency to have it fixed. Also the main bedroom has an on suite bathroom but the other two bedrooms have to share a bathroom.
The location is great and just a short walk to the Castle and other activities and they do a pretty good breakfast.

This house is in a fantastic location, easy walking distance to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Our host Susan was genuinely warm and welcoming, making us feel completely at home. The room was very comfortable, and breakfast was delicious.

Have stayed here a few times. Very comfortable and tasteful house. Feels like a home. Charming hostess. Convenient location for buses (No 10), free parking and not too far from town. Although it is on a bus route it is really quiet and there are lots of places to eat nearby (Susan can recommned some) . If you have the fishcakes for breakfast you won't need to eat again all day! Highly recommended. We had a twin and single room, single room had a huge victorian bath!

This is the best B&B on a street with many others, none of which look nearly as nice as The Town House. Susan Virtue is a superb host for your stay. The location is near many sites and great restaurants and pubs (Bennet's Bar just down the road is best for a quiet pint). The Cameo film house is around the corner, too. A short walk across the canal takes you to the big Scotland Conference Center where I attended an international conference. You can't go wrong with this place!

This B&B has so much to recommend it.
The location was perfect - walkable to the castle and old town, and the bus to the Royal Botanical garden was right outside our door! We had a car, though, that we were able to park for the duration of our Edinburgh stay (one of the very few B&Bs with parking). The breakfasts were really good - a variety of choices all tasty and a cut above the typical "full scottish breakfast." The room was spotless and the ensuite bathroom was immaculate. And there was wi-fi! Susan Virtue was very sweet and helpful. My husband and I had three lovely nights there and if we ever get back to Scotland, will stay there again.
