“Wow”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

Wow! We booked a grand suite and let me tell you it was Grand! Our room exceeded our expectations by a mile. The bathroom was incredibly spacious, I believe it was larger than some of the earlier rooms we stayed in during our trip. It was an added treat to be able pick what you want for breakfast and have it delivered to our room at the time you want. We only had 24 hours in Edinburgh and the staff were so helpful, high lighting maps for us, arranging taxi’s, valet parking…making our short time here memorable I would highly recommend this place to my friends and we will be returning one day to stay longer

Dear Jakesbackdoor,

We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us at The Edinburgh Residence and that our luxury, elegant suites and the service you received from our team exceeded your expectations.

We have three categories of suites at The Edinburgh Residence: Classic Suites (ideal for 2 people and larger than your average hotel room); Grand Suites (with a separate living/dining area) and Town House Apartments (with a separate sitting room, accommodates up to 4 people). Many of our suites feature spa baths or free standing bath tubs and unlike most hotel, all our suites are individual in design and atmosphere.

I am pleased that our team were able to help you get the most out of your short stay in Edinburgh. Our team members are always happy to share their knowledge of the local area and provide top tips on what to do and where to go in Edinburgh.

Thank you for taking the time to recommend The Edinburgh Residence on TripAdvisor. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Edinburgh Residence in the future.

It's like a grand home from home! The rooms are fabulous, very comfortable and have some self-catering facilities; the food is excellent (incl room service), the staff are great! The location is perfect - walking distance to Princes Street, art galleries, Haymarket Station; longish but do-able walking distance to castle, royal mile, museums; good bus services to Leith, zoo, East Lothian coast..... Not cheap, but good value for money - wouldn't want to stay anywhere else now!

Room Tip: All the rooms are fabulous - we have never been disappointed! Some have spa baths, some (top floor...

Dear DerekandSarah,

Thank you for your 5 star review on TripAdvisor after your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence. Your description of The Edinburgh Residence as “a Grand Home from Home” is wonderful and we aim to ensure all our guests are as comfortable and relaxed as they are in their own home.

As you mentioned in your review, all our Suites come with some self catering facilities: kettle, fridge, microwave, Nespresso machine, crockery, cutlery and glasses. And, unlike your own home – we will clean the dishes for you whilst you are exploring the delights of Edinburgh during the day! We do, of course, also offer a 24hour room service menu too.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding the team – this will be passed onto them. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Edinburgh Residence when you are back in Edinburgh.

Warm Regards,

Celia Hague

As I am disabled, I found facilities here excellent. I used my power wheelchair and had room 1 which has a lift from the car park. Staff will park your car. they had reserved the disabled space for me. very friendly & helpful staff. Room service daily. Excellent afternoon tea at £15.00. Worth a visit just for the food. Gt for visiting the sites. We hope to return.

Dear Sheenamorag,

Delighted to read your review Sheenamorag and pleased to hear you enjoyed your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence.

Our spacious wheelchair accessible suite features a roll in shower as well as grab rails in the bathroom and a shower stool. All areas of the hotel are accessible to wheelchair users, including our grand Drawing Room, where we serve our delicious Afternoon Tea. Our traditional Afternoon Tea is served on a three tier silver cake stand and has freshly made crustless finger sandwiches; homebaked scones with clotted cream and jam and a selection of homemade cakes and sweet deserts on the top tier. All served with freshly brewed Twinings Tea or Brodies of Edinburgh coffee and for an extra added indulgence, we include a glass of sparkling wine with all our Afternoon Teas – a “must do” for any stay at The Edinburgh Residence.

Thank for taking the time to review The Edinburgh Residence on TripAdvisor. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future.

We stay here every year as timeshare owners and love it. The staff cannot do enough to help, the room service breakfast is always spot on time, exactly as ordered and delicious. We haven't yet eaten downstairs in the relatively news 'Number 7' restaurant as we have young children but the menu looks good and we look forward to going on a future trip. The Residence is well located about a 10 minute walk from Haymarket Station and Princes Street. The apartments all have microwaves, fridges and kettles and White Company toiletries as standard.

We spend our hard earned money at The Edinburgh Residence last night in suite 20. A long awaited night away from our 4 year old - we splashed out the £166 for a larger suite: in the event I regret this. We had a great view over Edinburgh and the room was large - but it was in need of refurbishment. This is 5 star - and I have stayed elswehere at this level and within the TownHouse Collection and got a much better rooms without dates facilities (and torn wall paper, bits of card stuffed at the window edges to stop them rattling, moudly seals on the single shower with chipped enamel): I'm totally not ultra fussy but I chose 5 star and looked at the nice web-pictures and got something quite different.

I also didn't know they serve breakfast in your room until we arrived - so we had to choose our breakfast the night before and choose a 15 minute timeslot for room delivery: the system means that we and our room had to be ready for this precise timeslot (9.15-9.30): the breakfast was 6 minutes late - not a lot for sure - but they have required us as guests to be ready and to be timetabled - I therefore expect the hotel to deliver! The very nice man delivered our breakfast sweating (the hotel must have been understaffed as he was also the receptionist). He apologised but there were no crossiants! This is 5 star! This is Edinburgh: send someone out to get them! We ordered them the night before!

The tea we ordered was the wrong type: the porridge was inedible and salty (you should ask whether salt should be added), and the bread came straight out of a supermarket packet, alongside the concentrated and nt fresh orange juice. I expected a nice breakfast as a treat at 5 star level- what I got was a bog-standard late breakfast with items wrong or missing. An absolute disgrace for the price.

We complained at the desk on payment - something we have never done before - and our views were understood and agreed with!!!!.. However, we still got charged our £10 mini bar tab and offered no refund on the late/wrong/standard breakfast! Very odd.

I WAS a regular at the Townhouse Collection and I will not be spending my good money and precious time here again - there are plently of better options out there.

Don't spend your special night at this place - we had a great time-away - but this was despite the pricey accomodation and poor catering. A real shame though!

Dr Disappointed of Glasgow.

Room Tip: Don't choose pricy rooms/suites ... just choose another hotel.

Dear TessP,

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay this weekend at The Edinburgh Residence. Please accept our apologies your stay did not meet expectations, and rest assured this is not the standard we aim for. I am sorry our team did not react to the comments you made when you were settling your account and I will be in contact with you directly to address this.

As you can see from previous reviews, The Edinburgh Residence and our team generally receives a lot of praise from our guests. Though it appears that on this occasion we have let ourselves down. Your constructive comments are appreciated and will assist us in the continual review of the service we provide to help us improve the experience for all our guests.

I was particularly concerned to read your comments regarding your breakfast and have already discussed your feedback with our Head Chef and the service team. Our breakfasts are served with fresh orange juice and hand cut fresh bloomer bread for toast as standard and I am sorry that your breakfast experience differed greatly from our usual standards.

As part of our commitment to maintaining the standards of our building and suites, we redecorate and refurnish a number of suites each year. This year we have already redecorated the staircases and corridors as well as the reception area and our Drawing Room.

We would appreciate the opportunity to welcome you back to The Edinburgh Residence and hope you will consider staying with us again.

Yours faithfully,

Celia Hague

Back again at Edinburgh residence for, I think, our 8th stay! It has recently changed hands and is now Swiss owned. However, this has not impacted at all on the sheer qualtiy and luxury of this truly beautiful property. I cannot recommend it highly enough!!
We booked a classic suite for 2 weekend nights and were kindly upgraded on arrival to a top range townhouse suite. Everything about it was first class
Just go--you wont be disappointed!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5 which was simply stunning. However, this was our 8th stay and every time we have...

Had a lovely stay at the Edinburgh Residence over May Bank Holiday, the suite was huge and really comfortable. Breakfast served in the room was a great touch - very relaxing! Car Parking was a fanstatic bonus so close to the city centre. Definately recommend staying here and will hopefully visit again soon!
