This hotel has an excellent location, in the center of the town and at the heart of all the action. Nonetheless, I'm not quite sure it's worth the money. It's not that anything was wrong; the place is beautiful and clean, and the staff in the bar and the front door are very friendly. It just seemed to be lacking something--soul, a vibe, ambience--whatever you call it, that you find at the smaller, quirkier boutique hotels. If grand hotels are your thing (and they're often mine), this could be the place for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for something with more soul or character, you might want to try another place.

I have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and the Balmoral Hotel surpassed my expectations. The room was well appointed with comfortable bed and nice linens. The bath was updated and very nice. The service was excellent - they responded to each of my requests immediately and efficiently. On top of all this, it's location was ideal. I can't wait to return.

I stayed here for two nights in April 2012 when on business. This hotel is extremely well situated in Princes street, right next to the Waverley Train station. Many sights, shops and pubs all very close by. Check in and out was easy. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. One got the impression of class without being over the top. Staff were confident, friendly and competent. I would happily stay here again for business, and if I could afford it, personally. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom was great - huge tub.

Just returned from Scotland, and spent 3 nights at The Balmoral. The hotels location was perfect for shopping, touring and restaurants. The staff was very professional and extremely friendly. The furnishings in the room are plush, and the bathroom was fantastic. We had a wonderful view of old town and the castle, and loved looking at the view at night with the lights. Could not have found a better place to stay in Edinburgh, and will definately return.

Room Tip: worth the cost to have a castle view and old town side was very quiet.
