Just came back from a wonderful stay at The Balmoral. My daughter is doing a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh and I came to visit her. I traveled solo and the hotel could not have been more warm or welcome. The concierge staff in particular was brilliant! They remembered my name after the first day and were always ready with an incredibly helpful suggestion or pointer. The room was warm and comfortable, the hotel is gorgeous, the rest of the staff incredibly friendly. The location was ideal as I came on the train from London (and the hotel is right beside the train station and central to EVERYTHING). Breakfasts at the restaurant were very good and dinners, exceptional (this is Hadrian's). The afternoon tea was amazing. All in all my stay at the Balmoral was one of the best hotel interludes I have ever had. I strongly recommend this great hotel!

Room Tip: I had room 231 which was HUGE. Very comfortable.

We stayed at this property with our 5 month old baby; great amenities for babies such as bottle warmer, nappies, sterilizer etc. The concierge totally rocks; ask anything and consider it done. The property itself is beautiful with it's old world charm. We stayed in the deluxe room for a night and then got an upgrade to a suite. Both the room and the suite was large and nicely decorated. The thing you need to know is that all rooms up to superior deluxe looks into the central court which has the advantage to be very quiet but no view; the interior facade has nothing to do with the beautiful external facade. It's ugly and dull. So if you like to have a room with a view make sure you book superior deluxe and upwards.

Our comfortable room overlooked the station/Princes street towards Edinburgh castle. A great size room with super king sized bed. We enjoyed the amenities. Service was pleasant throughout and Andrew (concierge) deserves a special mention for his excellent room orientation carried out in a thorough and assured, professional manner. Stunning building typical of the railway era in an excellent central location.

We enjoyed a six night stay at the Balmoral Hotel, using it as our home base while we toured Edinburgh, the Highlands, the Borders, etc. First contact was online with concierge, David. He was a great help before we left the States as well as during our stay at the Balmoral. The rest of the staff is excellent, also. The hotel's location is super convenient for walking to attractions, the train, tour buses, etc. Cleanliness, food, decor, amenities and service made this our favorite hotel during our 3 week trip to Ireland and Scotland. We usually view hotel food as less than stellar, however, light dinner in the bar and everything in Hadrian's was delicious after a long day of touring! The only suggestion I have is for WiFi to be available in the rooms.

Room Tip: Interior rooms, overlooking the courtyard, are very quiet. Tram construction on Prince's street...

I would just like to thank The Balmoral for such a perfect stay. My partner and I travel a lot and in the 4 years and monthly trips away this is without a doubt the best hotel we have stayed in. The only thing that could do with some improvement is the hotel bar, very slow service and they got our order wrong and the table next to us they forgot the order all together so if there is one thing I need to pick at it would be to train the younger bar staff but otherwise a perfect stay! I can't wait to book another weekend and I'm sure there will be a lot more stays being booked here in the future.

I used to work in Edinburgh and for years walked passed this hotel on a daily basis so was really looking forward to a weekend break in this 5 star, luxurious and prestiogious location. Upon entering the reception area it all looks very impressive, clean and very inviting. We were booked into a queen room and allocated room 633. The room was perfectly clean but there was absolutely nothing special about it. It was fairly sparse and dominated by the windows wrapped around two walls heavilly draped with blackout curtains. Upon opening the curtains we could see that the room sat at the rear of the hotel, farthest away from the lifts, in the corner looking inwards onto the inside of a 7 or 8 storey block. In other words brick walls in all directions. Given the fantastic views that can be seen from this hotel and particularly as it wasnt full why would you allocate this room? Extrememly disappointed and given what we had paid I wouldn't return for another visit. Room and maid service was very good which helped detract from room!

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking with a view.

Spent a total of 9 days here from late September through to early October. My Wife and I can not rate this hotel high enough. We stayed in a Delux room and were lucky enough to get a brilliant view straight down Princes St. and up to the Castle. The room was very big and the bathroom had plenty of room. My brother booked a standard room (without the view) and even this was a great size. What really made this hotel though was the staff. Nothing was to much trouble. Every single person from the wait staff at morning breakfast to the night porters were absolutly brilliant. It is easily 6 stars out of 5.

Room Tip: Be cheeky and ask for a view of the castle. It is worth it.
