Service - Superb standard of service.

Value - Not cheap, but worth it for the quality/location.

Sleep Quality - Perfect night's sleep on a very comfy bed.

Cleanliness - Nothing to complain about.

Location - Amazing. Right at the east end of Edinburgh's central street, with great views.

Rooms - Large and lovely, but a touch dated.

This was our second stay and equally as good as the first. A very warm welcome from the staff who remembered us, which was lovely as almost a year since our last visit.
Our room was beautiful but as it was at the front of the hotel on Princes St., only downside was the traffic noise (and before Olga Polizzi can say 'you're in a city, what do you expect' I've stayed in a hotel on 5th Avenue, New York and could hear nothing)
I assume it's a listed building. Perhaps they could supply ear plugs :0)
Apart from that, there is nothing to fault the hotel. The staff are brilliant, the food is excellent. All round service is perfect. We will be returning in the NewYear.

We stayed at the Balmoral for one night and we were very impressed by the service we received and the standard of the rooms. We stayed in a king delux room which had a small lounge area and a large bathroom. Bed was superb and very comfy. Staff were always polite and consistently showed outstanding customer service. Breakfast was also very good and staff were very attentive. The location is ideal as it is next to the train station and within walking distance to many good bars and restaurants as well as the theatre. We would definitely stay again on our next trip to Edinburgh.

My husband and I stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the Balmoral. Like any great hotel, its service sets it apart. We enjoyed the spa and all dining options. The breakfast is beautiful. When we could not get a table at their famous Number One at the last minute the concierge eventually got us a table for 4. Not to be missed - the Number One chef's tasting menu paired with 6 wines was incredible. We enjoyed afternoon tea as well as the cozy scotch bar. It is all things a great hotel should be and every request was met with yes and done quickly.

The Balmoral proved to be everything it said it was going to be (& a bit more) - we have stayed in five star hotels before - but many have proved to be very stuffy & standoffish. The Balmoral was friendly from point of check-in. Concierge, Reception, Porters - in fact all staff that were aware that you were just arriving went out of their way to welcome you to the Hotel & Edinburgh.

Hotel is central to everything, shops, attractions etc., fabulous architecture throughout, three or four bar areas & spa - something & somewhere for everyone. Our rooms were on the third floor & were stylishly decorated & comfortable - bathrooms well lit & up to date. Cleanliness was second to none - spotless to the extreme. Unexpected - but delightful turn-down service - when we returned after our evening out - rooms had been tidied, bathroom freebies & fresh towels restocked - beds very comfortable & linen - pure luxury.

Would highly recommend Breakfast - stylish & contemporary setting (again not at all stuffy), staff were relaxed & friendly - the selection of everything was fresh, stunning quality & plentiful.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone & will definitely be visiting again - if there were to be any gripes - they would be quite small - one bar smelt so strongly of fish had to have drinks in another & one of our rooms which overlooked roof of Palm Court was subject to every noise of the hotel throughout the night which did wake us constantly - despite laying in such a comfortable bed (sadly receptionist didn't seem very interested in that comment).

Still our stay was short & we have not doubt that we would have been moved if we had been staying longer - so here is a quick thank you to all the staff of The Balmoral you should thoroughly proud of the excellent quality & standard of service that you execute so modestly.

Room Tip: We wouldn't choose 3rd floor by the lift overlooking domes glass roof (of Palm Court we think)

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review, sharing your recent experience of The Balmoral. I am delighted to learn that from the moment you arrived, my colleagues took such great care of you, making you feel instantly at ease and demonstrating our commitment to providing a professional yet friendly service. I am glad that your positive impression continued throughout your stay, finding the bedrooms well appointed and the breakfast of a high quality.
I do regret that you encountered some noise disturbance. Whilst the majority of our guests find the hotel to be well insulated against external noise, some areas of the hotel are better suited for light sleepers. Please do highlight your preference for a quiet room upon booking and I am certain that we can find a suitable room for your next visit.

Thank you again for taking the trouble to review The Balmoral. It will be a pleasure to share your kind words with the team and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Yours sincerely

Franck X Arnold
