My 17 year old son and I stayed at the Balmoral for two nights before setting off to St Andrews, the countryside, and then returned for a third night. All was just perfect. Rooms well appointed, concierge staff so attentive, breakfast a feast, could not be better located. We requested a quiet room and were inside with a courtyard view for the first two nights. The most fabulous bathroom ever and totally quiet. When we returned, we requested a view to see the difference and WOW it was spectacular. The were a couple snafu's upon check in and the staff immediately sent a bottle of wine as an apology. Truly and excellent stay all around. We also had tea in the Palm Court and it was very special. Highly recommend. Didn't have time to try the spa.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want. :-)

This week we have just spent three days in the best hotel we have ever stayed at. All the staff from the Maintenance staff to the Concierge where genuinely helpful and friendly. Even just walking through the corridor to our room we were greeted warmly by all the staff. In particular was Serverine (I think that was his name) on reception for whom nothing was too much trouble. Attention was paid to the small details and anything I asked for was no trouble. The whole experience was perfect. The Balmoral could certainly teach all the other Hotels a thing or two particularly in relation to excellent service. Hope to be staying there again soon.

Room Tip: No noise issues that we could detect in a very busy Edinburgh.

We recently stayed here during a night away. The lobby is amazing but our room although super clean and modern, lacked a little warmth and the value for money wasn't there. It was also the smallest room in the hotel (inside room) verified by the map on the inside of the door which was disappointing given the price we paid and I agree with other reviewers that some tea/coffee might be nice. We did not eat here but had one drink in the main bar when we came back from dinner and its basically a room with seats and tables, absolutely no character. I can't understand those wireless charges either! you pay so much for this hotel yet they don't throw in complimentary access? Plus points were the concierge and bellmen who work there are lovely and its in a perfect location.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not have an inside room - avoid 609

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the trouble to share your impressions following your recent stay at The Balmoral. I am pleased to read that you were impressed on arrival with the grandeur of our lobby and the hospitality provided by our concierge and bellmen.
The Palm Court lounge has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and I am sorry that the décor and atmosphere did not meet with your expectations. The lounge was designed primarily with a view to providing an elegant yet relaxed environment for our guests to enjoy afternoon tea. We do also offer Scotch, our whisky bar, and The Balmoral Bar, which has a livelier atmosphere and may have suited you better.
All of our bedrooms differ both in terms of décor and size. Whilst many of our guests appreciate the quiet offered by our internal rooms, these do not suit everyone. Should you allow us the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, please do state your preference for a larger room upon booking as I am certain that we could find an alternative that would better suit your needs.

Yours sincerely

Was on a day out with a friend and decided to pop in for lunch. WOW !!. I had the pheasant washed down with a glass of champagne. All I can say the food is excellent as was the service. After lunch we had a glass of champagne and the cheeseboard in the cocktail bar. I will definitely be back.

We stayed 4 nights, room was spotlessly clean every day. Staff throughout the hotel were efficient, courteous and friendly; nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be coming back again and recommend it highly. The city centre location is perfect and transport links excellent.

Incredible location and hotel. The rooms and service were fantastic. Easy access to shopping, restaurants, buses, train station and the Edinburgh Castle. We were spoiled by the amenities and service. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious with towel warming bars in the bathrooms. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The Balmoral set a new bar for traveling with our children. This is truly a 5 star hotel. An amazing hotel and well worth the price!

What a wonderful find in this gorgeous hotel. Attentive and friendly staff decked in lovely (and very flattering) brown tweed kilts with matching waistcoats. An embarrassment of whiskey says you would expect from a whiskey snug. And the best Cosmopolitans in the city
