The Balmoral is definitely a luxury property. Silent halls, exquisite accents in the main and bedroom areas. The staff were very attentive to my needs and the food was delicious! Definitely a hotel thats worth the price

My partner and I started our day at 08:30 on the train direct to Edinburgh from Ayr . On arrival we made our way to Harvey Nichols for a browse and wee early starter drink in the bar on the fourth floor.
Next stop was Tom Kitchin's restaurant "The Kitchin" where we had the most fabulous a la carte lunch ( going back in December for dinner) and for anyone reading this review it's a must for your bucket list .
After lunch and wee bit tipsy we shared a cocktail served from a china teapot and drank from china cups in The Roseleaf bar . Very quirky and worth a visit.
Now back in the taxi heading for Harvey Nichols for a spot of shopping then home .
Home ? No chance . Not yet anyway. We spotted The Balmoral Hotel and decided on one for the road ( well that was the plan ).

Into the beautiful hotel foyer and then Hadrian's bar we went and planted ourselves on stools at the bar where J.D. the bar supervisor was on duty. A nice guy and a master cocktail maker. I was on draught Peroni by this time but my lovely partner was totally engrossed in the cocktail menu and sampled several not forgetting some wee tasters courtesy of J.D. .
What a great time we had in this bar and will certainly be back . J.D. you added the finishing touch to a fantastic day out for us and we thank you for that .

The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh is a grand old hotel with a wonderful reception staff and a great location. The room decor, however, leaves a lot to be desired with an almost nouveau tired looking euro style furnishing not really fitting in with a classic old world hotel. The restaurant and bar are also lacking in elegance and atmosphere. Dinner and breakfast were good; lunch merely passable with a rather inattentive staff and overall the facilities and food are not memorable. Both the hotel and the public facilities could benefit from a makeover.

This hotel was fabulous in every way. You couldn't ask for better service. The location was perfect. Great rooms and the gourmet restaurant was outstanding. Would definately stay there again if we ever return to Edinburgh.

It's a great hotel, perfectly located, with world-class service. The guest rooms are beautifully appointed. The food is outstanding and I really enjoyed their relatively new hotel bar called "Scotch", where you can taste an amazing selection of single malts. My new favorite single malt is Glenkinchee, and definitely have a pint of Schiehallion. Edinburgh is a fun city to explore with so much history.

From the moment of arrival until time of leaving, the Balmoral excels. Check in smooth and efficient. Room delightful with a super bathroom and an excellent selection of toiletries. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room lovely. Differing selection of high end restaurants and an excellent bar. Not cheap, but a worthwhile treat. The location could not be better. The place to stay in Edinburgh, nowhere else, in my opinion, gets close.

Room Tip: I like the 6th floor, lovely and quiet.

We arrived at Edinburgh Station yesterday and found ourselves outside The Balmoral Hotel in the pouring rain looking for a cab. You're right, we were not hotel guests. The doormen saw our plight and offered to help. They ushered us into the lobby-gorgeous, asked where we were staying and rang for a taxi! How I wished we had been staying at that hotel if this is the level of service offered to a non resident!! Having never visited Edinburgh before, it was a wonderful start and we were enormously grateful. How much other hotels could learn from this type of service. I am saving up to book a room here on my next visit. Thank you Stephen and Barry for your thoughtfulness and kindness.
