“Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

We had the most wonderful time at the Balmoral. We booked well in advance for afternoon tea at 3pm, Upon arrival we were whisked through to a reserved table and the special treatment began.
We started with a gazpacho amuse bouche, followed by a selection of savouries, a selection of sweets including the scones (there were plain scones as well, as someone who is allergic to most dried fruits I am unable to have the fruit ones so this made my day), then there was a trolley wheeled around with a selection of chocolates and nougat and then finally we received two miniature strawberry ice cream cones. Added to this was champagne and coffees and we went home with two mini tins of house blend tea in a commemorative tin. I didn't eat half of what was brought out but my husband took one for the team and ate everything.
The atmosphere was great and a wedding party were clapped through Palm court as we ate.
The staff are faultless and so professional.
It's not the cheapest afternoon tea but it is definitely one of the best in my opinion.
With champagne it was £82 for both of us and I highly recommend it.

One for the ladies....if you need to use the ladies room the sinks are just beautiful all decorated with roses.

Very clean, great staff, great food.....loved it!

Room Tip: If you can afford a suite get one in the turret rooms, beautiful.

The people who work at the Balmoral are friendly, welcoming and helpful and created an environment of being pampered. Our room had 2 bathrooms, one with a tub/shower, the other with a walk in shower, Coffee and newspapers were available early in the tea room, and reasonably priced room service cereal for early risers. The hotel is conveniently located to historical sites and is right next door to the train station and near to the park. Wish the Rocco Forte had some properties in the USA.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your wonderful review following your recent stay at The Balmoral. I am delighted to learn that you were impressed with the quality of our accommodation and services and that my colleagues added to your overall enjoyment with their warmth of hospitality.
Whilst we unfortunately do not have any hotels in the USA currently, I sincerely hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future, if not to The Balmoral then perhaps to one of our other Rocco Forte Hotels.

Yours sincerely

We enjoyed our stay at the Balmoral in Edinburgh. It is a lovely older hotel that has been appropriately updated. Our room was spacious with high ceilings. The staff was helpful and made great recommendations for dinners. The location is perfect for seeing Edinburgh Castle! No need for taxis, everything accessible by foot.

Central local and long history make this hotel a great place to stay, but it is expensive for a somewhat worn and torn facility and it needs some serious updating and renovation. The Balmoral has a good spa and a pleasant and professional staff. One might consider staying in a country inn outside Edinburgh and traveling into the city during the day for the tours. If you do book the Balmoral and arrive early, please count on the fact that your room will NOT be ready for your occupancy. The hotel also houses a first rate restaurant, Number One.

Room Tip: The rooms are small and can be dark, so consider an upgrade.

One of the best hotels I have ever been to.Facilities are excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient. The concierge team are a wealth of information and always ready to assist. The hotel is bang in the centre of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the street.

Fantastic Place and Setting... Old North british Hotel...... Can't beat it....

Shame about the trams - and the road system in the town trying to get there but the food and decor of the place made it worth the effort

I visited Edinburgh this year with my daughter in March to visit family and again to do some shopping. Boy! Can my daughter shop! Once again we had a very nice room, noise levels from the road outside were minimal. Comfort though was maximum! Staff once again were very attentive and welcoming. This time I tried out the swimming pool in the spa. My daughter insisted and I'm glad she did. Lovely experience, very clean and nice and warm. Huge bath robes to shimmy down the corridors to the lift that took you down to it and a welcoming member of staff to show us around and where we could help ourselves to a refreshment once we were out of the pool. Scrumptious breakfast in the morning and help with our departure. I will be back as I'm sure my husband would like a stay next time we visit family.
