These three words sum up my my experience at the Balmoral.
Room a good size, great sized bathroom with a brilliant turndown service.
The Balmoral bar is bustling with some exceptional cocktails on the menu, they serve everything from the classics to some really delicious dessert cocktails.

The price was reasonable considering our stay was during the Edinburgh Festival, I will look forward to staying at this establishment again.

We pre-booked a table for afternoon tea on a Saturday afternoon as part of our honeymoon. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding, with waiting staff being attentive without being obtrusive. A lovely treat.

Balmoral Hotel was fine. No surprises. This is a high-end corporate hotel: clean, efficient, very nicely appointed, well staffed. Nice touches like the ever-replenished basket of fresh strawberries. Lobby bar was pleasant with an expansive selection of whiskey. Breakfast spread was generous and tasty but we opted for neighborhood coffee houses instead that were considerably less expensive and gave us a taste of life in Edinburgh. My only teensy tiny, almost irrelevant complaint was that upon checking in the reception staff told us all about a free upgrade that was NOT available to us and then proceeded to try to sell us an upgrade.... that started our stay on a slightly sour note. So if you are booking through Expedia, you may want to call a day or two before you arrive to see if the free upgrade is available. Who knows. Regardless, you won't be disappointed with your stay at the Balmoral. Lovely place to stay in this great city

Stayed at the hotel this week and saved up for the treat so at £430 for two people for 1 night I was astonished to be informed that it would be an additional £50 for two full breakfasts. The room was nice but courtyard facing, so not a great view despite the same price as the rooms facing the City. The movies on pay per view were £8 each and not in my opinion very up to date. Lastly room description says that the mini bar is included, yet the tariff charges are hung on the door to warn you off touching anything. Had to wait about an hour for complimentary tea and coffee to be brought up, which is just that with not even a piece of shortbread to accompany your tea. Need to learn to ask more of these larger hotels and not be embarrassed to do so.

We recently spent 3 nights at this landmark hotel in the center of beautiful Edinburgh. The welcome is charming, you are first greeted by a lovely man in a kilt, and the front desk efficiently checks you in as they chat you up. The rooms are classic and comfortable. Bathrooms are up to date and crispy clean with big photos of Sean Connery. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Dinner at One was absolutely amazing and memorable. Hadrian's brasserie was great for lunch. We would definitely return to this beauty.

This hotel is top-notch, right in the city center and with lovely service. Typically, I am MUCH more prepared for a trip but in this case I couldn't be. I don't like to rely on concierge services because I often feel they send you to the most tourist-y places. But not so here -- I worked with almost every concierge for Tattoo tickets, places to eat, places to shop and the like and they were great. Helpful and responsive despite being very busy.

As you would expect when you pay this much for a hotel, every other area was top-notch too: breakfast staff, check-in, cleaning and turn down service. All prompt and friendly.

If I had any complaints, I'd mention that the rooms can be somewhat small (but the bathrooms big). And from our room on the 6th floor, we could still hear the street noise. But the bed was comfy enough that I was able to overcome this generally.

Happy to have made this choice last minute over another hotel that wasn't as central, and whose reviews were sort of up and down.

Room Tip: Maybe an inside room to avoid the street noise.

Attended a wedding recently. The day was spectacular. Service and food was excellent. Pre dinner drinks served and the waiters came round constantly filling people's glasses. Was champagne so didn't refuse! Little snacks were good too. Meal was first class. Didn't have the evening buffet but those who did enjoyed. Would highly recommend
