We had a family room at the front of the hotel. The room was a good size and the beds very comfortable. It was also nice having an IPOD docking station to give an alternative to the TV. The staff were excellent and very helpful giving out information and advice on what to do. The hotel was a little way out from the city centre but the buses were frequent and so this was not an issue. The breakfasts were very nice. My daughter had a pull out sofa bed which she found very comfortable. We will definately return.

Rooms at the Salisbury were very comfortable and the bathroom was exceptionally clean. What made it a great stay was the staff at the front desk who were so helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was really niceand I find it hard to fault this hotel. Only downside is that it is a good 25 minute walk to the city centre but there is a bus stop quite close by.

This hotel is in a superb location, only 20 minutes to walk into the city centre, or you can hop on a bus and get into the centre in 5 minutes. The staff are really friendly and helpful, suggesting places we could go for lunch etc. We'd highly recommend Reverie for a meal, it's just round the corner from The Salisbury. The rooms were really nicely decorated, our only complaints were a wobbly loo seat and the shower wasn't too well enclosed in the bathroom, which led to the floor getting quite wet. Continental breakfast was included in our rate, and it was £3.50 per person to get a full cooked breakfast. We'd definitely visit The Salisbury again, it was much better value than paying over the odds for a large hotel in the city centre.

A mixed first impression (lovely building, slightly weathered paintwork) revealed fabulous staff who really did want to make our stay in Edinburgh special.
Our room (a Superior Double with garden view) was not as clean as it could have been (I found a stray Malteaser next to my bedside table), but it was nicely presented and the bed (two large singles pushed together) was extremely comfortable, although the bed and duvet were both very short (we are 5 foot 11 and 6 foot 2!).
The bathroom was well equipped, very compact but had a nice powerful shower (although the spray managed to wet the whole room).
The hotel is a 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre of the city (although my husband says I walk annoyingly slowly, I just like to take in my surroundings!). It's one straight main road, not a difficult walk, and it's an interesting road we were happy to walk down. If you don't fancy the walk, buses are unbelievably frequent and reasonably priced, by bus the journey only takes five minutes.
Breakfasts were served by friendly staff and of good quality; cereal, toast, fresh fruit, dried fruits, yogurt and a real range of cooked dishes; my husband was thrilled to finally try haggis in his Scottish Grill.
The staff really were fantastic; we were welcomed bright and early at 10am and allowed to leave our luggage securely despite arriving before check in hours. We were also allowed to leave our luggage on our last day; after checking out, as our flight wasn't until the evening. This was both unexpected and generous. We cannot praise the four front of house staff enough.
We really were impressed by the Salisbury, and would definitely return. I just hope they have slightly more attentive cleaners, and a bigger duvet!

My husband, our 2 year and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel. I have to say I was impressed, and really that says alot as I am a bit of a hotel snob. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The room we stayed in was huge, by American standards. We stayed in the Salisbury room (rooms are named, not numbered) in the front of the hotel. We didn't have any issues with street noise or light once we closed the shutters. The king size 4 poster bed was comfortable and was a true king, not just 2 twins pushed together. The bathroom was also a good size with updated fixtures. I found all aspects of the room to be very clean.

I suggest having breakfast at the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was sufficient, but for a few quid more you could get a pretty good hot meal. The staff was cheerful and they even had a highchair and a child-friendly place setting at our table when we arrived.

Just be aware that this hotel isn't on the Royal Mile. It was a 25 minute walk for us to get to where all the action was. However, the city has a really good bus system and there is a bus stop right at the corner. It was a 5 minute trip to get to the Royal Mile.

In short, I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Two nights at the Salisbury were excellent, rooms clean, comfortable and not bad size. Ask for the back of the building if possible as front can be a little noisy with traffic. However, staff were exceptionally helpful, with recommendations for restaurants and ways to get about, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was good, continental with lots of choice and cooked options available for an extra charge.
Good location of hotel, 15 minutes easy walk to the Royal Mile.
