Owner description: Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town, the Grassmarket area is one of the most vibrant, picturesque and convivial areas of the city. A paradise of independent merchants, designers and artisans, the Grassmarket Edinburgh is simply bursting with some of the best shopping Edinburgh has to offer. Far more than simply a retail haven, the area is well known for being home to some of the best restaurants in Edinburgh as well as some of the most vibrant and eclectic bars in Edinburgh. In fact the Grassmarket pubs, many with a history dating back to the notorious days of Burke and Hare, are known throughout the world for their exciting, dark Edinburgh history mixed with some of the best traditional food, ales and music in the city! Well preserved cobbled streets, medieval architecture and inspiring views of Edinburgh Castle help to create an atmosphere unparalleled in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Nearly in the centre of Edinburgh this lively area of Grassmarket is situated.Very near to Royal Mile,Edinburgh Castle,Greyfriar Bobby and Churchyard.
In the past it used to be the Cattlemarket and a place of Local hangings. Now its an area of great hustle and bustle and life. Many restaurants and pubs are here mainly the Fiddlers Arms, The Whitehart Inn(the oldest pub)and an Irish pub, Biddy Mulligans. It is also the place where many fringe performers can be seen.
Lots of shopping mainly for tea, knitwear can be done.
Also there are good hotels n guest houses to stay at because the area is full of life and near to all main attractions.

This area of Edinburgh has numerous places to eat and drink and these options are greatly increased with the arrival of the Saturday market, a mixture of art and crafts, prepared food such as wonderful looking paella and sausages and jams, cheeses etc. An interesting area and well worth a visit.

Situated below Edinburgh Castle the Grassmarket boasts many great pubs and restaurants. Victoria Street and the Cowgate are just a few minutes away and also Greyfriars Bobby and the Chuchyard are a required visit,

For me this is the best location to stay in the old town of Edinburgh. Very close to everything and a very historic location. Total recommend!

You should visit this area which has a massive choice of restaurants and Britain's smallest pub. Make sure you don't miss it.
