The interior of the building was very nice, the displays were interesting but the café was disappointing. The front exterior looked dirty and neglected, such a huge let down considering the importance and location on Princes Street.

This has to be one of my favourite places on earth. Beautiful works of art in an incredible setting. It is wonderful to walk in off Princes Street and approach the ornate building which houses such a fabulous collection. Do not miss the Velasquez, to my mind one of his best works.

We visited to see the Titian exhibition and found so much more. A Leonardo da Vinci tucked away upstairs unannounced was worth the visit alone. The rooms are lovely and well laid out. The downstairs cafe is worth a visit too with its gorgeous view of Princes Street Gardens. And it's free entry. A great way to spend a few hours.

A different place to take kids - this is a fascinating and awe inspiring building set at the bottom of the Mound.

My 6 year old was in awe at the detail, the colours and the vibrancy - spotting the most obscure small details in the paintings.

Spent a few hours wandering about, and had a fantastic cake and tea in the little cafe, before wandering in the gift shop.

A free ( donations requested) lovely day out.
