Owner description: Eat walk Edinburgh offer two Food walking tours. One explores Edinburgh's Old & New towns and the other the lower half of the Royal Mile called the Canongate. On each of these tours you will visit unusual/hidden restaurants, bars and shops. There will be five food tastings and three drink tastings on the tour. The guide will talk about the history of the area as you walk between venues. The Old & new Town tour (1pm-4.30pm) which has five food stops with a Edinburgh Raspberry Gin, Scottish beer and a single cask malt whisky tasting ensuring you will not need to worry about dinner in the evening. The Canongate tour (10am-1pm) enjoys six stops including a Bloody Mary cocktail and breakfast canapes to get the tour off and running. By the end there will be no need for lunch. The Old & New town tour was recommended in BBC Good Food Magazine as a "Don't miss" thing to do in Edinburgh. Delicious magazine also has it down as a must do.

The tour started in a cosy warm snug and leads you through parts of Edinburgh as you stop along the way to sample traditional Scottish dishes. Don't believe the stories -haggis and black pudding are delicious. The tour is informative and the food is yummy. Enjoy!

Don't miss this interesting and yummy way to explore Edinburgh. Our guide (sorry I forgot his name) was fantastic - we came away with an expanded understanding of this beautiful city and it's history and an appreciation for it's cuisine. Lovely afternoon.

A knowledgeable guide, Iian, took us on a leisurely stroll around the Edinburgh streets. The stories are fun, they give a picture of the Scottish capital through the eyes of a Scot. Food stops are great, we went back to one the next day for lunch. Haggis in the Scotch Malt Whisky Society was a highlight.

Sounds like you had an enjoyable tour. It's great that you went back to one of venues for lunch the next day. The Scotch Malt Whisky stop is often a highlight and we encourage people to try haggis (with some lovely whisky on the side).

I booked the evening tour near the beginning of my 8 day stay in the area and was very happy that I had done so. Alan, the tour leader,is a charming and engaging host. In addition to guiding you to some excellent eating spots, he also introduces you to interesting shops and places of interest along the way. If you have been in Edinburgh for any length of time you will have heard all of the tried and (somewhat) true historical tidbits and Alan manages to bring a fresh, and I believe honest, perspective to these tales. We were given unobtrusive head sets to wear so that we could clearly hear what Alan was saying as we walked along. The restaurants that we visited were diverse and the food excellent. The restaurants are obviously chosen with care and highlight local Scottish cuisine -- everything was delicious -- even the hagis that most of us were terrified to try! I highly recommend this tour and would suggest that you book it for the beginning of your stay in the City since you will most likely want to re-visit some of the spots.

Thank you for your review

Really glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Eat Walk Edinburgh. We do try to find some interesting snippets of Edinburgh history and enjoy passing them on to our guests. The headsets do give you a bit more freedom so you don't have to gather round the guides. It's great that you tried haggis, we encourage people to try something new. The restaurants will be glad to hear that you wanted to go back to them, we'll pass on your comments.
