“Fab pre Easter break 2 adults & 14yr old :-)”
Reviewed 29 March 2013

Just got back from a 2 night stay at this hotel for my partners 50th birthday. Reception staff friendly & efficient, our family room was adequate with tea & coffee facilities. Free parking. What makes this hotel is the staff - friendly, cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. My partner found a birthday card in our room on arrival, and another card and birthday cake complete with candle from the dining room staff - and the food was good, we sampled an evening 3 course meal & 2 breakfasts. All in all a good hotel close to the town, right next to the zoo, with spa facilities, fab food & great staff, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it for a short city break.

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms have excellent views

While this hotel lives up to its Holiday Inn reputation. While everything comes as an extra if booked in advance it can offer good base (plenty of parking) on airport side of Edinburgh. Food was overpriced but perfectly adequate. The hotel was full while I was there but despite that the staff were very pleasant and efficient.

My best friend and I stayed here as part of a travel solutions trip to the Scotland Vs. Ireland Six Nations Game. We arrived around lunchtime on Saturday and check in was easy and quick. We were given a twin room on the second floor, which was spacious, with 2 comfortable beds, a table and 2 chairs and desk. There was ample storage and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a decent sized bathroom. Overall the room was comfortable enough for 2 people with plenty of TV channels to keep us amused.

We had a few glasses of wine in the hotel bar on the Saturday evening, it was nice but pretty busy, as the hotel was full, with rugby and ice hockey fans. But the atmosphere was good.

We also had breakfast in the hotel both mornings. On Sunday morning, it was crazy, as the hotel was full, nonetheless, breakfast was enjoyable with plenty of varieties of hot and cold foods to choose from. Monday morning was a lot less busy, and breakfast was a more pleasant experience.

The hotel also has a great health suite, including a gym and pool, sauna and jacuzzi. We used the pool, sauna and jacuzzi both mornings and really enjoyed it. It was a lovely way to relax before heading out for a busy day in Edinburgh.

Murrayfield is also within easy walking distance, less than a mile away, which was handy as we were there for the rugby. The zoo is right next door the hotel, whch is great if you like animals, and Edinburgh city centre, Princes Street, etc is also close by, about 15 minutes on the bus, with a bus stop right outside the hotel. There are also a number of shops and restaurants within about 1/2 a mile of the hotel, which is nice, even if you just fancy a walk.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

Steph.

What a great occasion to visit Holiday Inn Edinburgh. As one of the closest hotels to Murrayfield Stadium, Scotland's home of rugby, we are well versed in welcoming the rugby fans over the busy Six Nations period.

Thank you for highlighting how well the team managed, even over such busy times. We're all glad you enjoyed the food and drink and the hotel, and made use of the relaxing sauna ahead of your busy days.

See you next year!

Stayed here for a weekend trip to Edinburgh (including a trip to the zoo). As many reviewers have pointed out the location is ideal for the zoo, and if that's the reason for your trip you couldn't imagine a better location.
It's a fairly short bus ride into Edinburgh from a stop right outside the hotel, and a taxi back from the city centre at the end of a Saturday night only cost about £7.
While there isn't anything particularly fancy about the hotel it is clean, spacious and the staff were helpful and polite (happily checking our luggage into a left luggage room during a visit to the zoo after we'd checked out of the hotel). The only slight issue was that the double bed in the room turned out to actually be two single beds pushed together; however, this actually turned out to be quite comfortable (and very spacious!) so there wasn't any real complaint.

Overall, recommended as a place to stay for visiting the zoo or if you're looking for somewhere slightly cheaper than a lot of the hotels in the city centre but still with decent access to town.

Thanks for your feedback, great to hear you enjoyed your visit to the zoo.

Our King Bedrooms are 'zip and link' beds, which we often use to set up as twin rooms when the demand is high. While still very comfortable, we do have a choice of standard doubles if they are not the preference.

I'm very happy to hear that the staff were so helpful, we're always more than happy to keep your luggage while you discover Edinburgh either before you check in or after you checked out of your accommodation.

Stayed two nights at this hotel; perfect location to visit the zoo that is literally next door. All twin rooms face the car park unfortunatley, we changed to a higher floor with a slightly better outlook. All double rooms get to face the mountain view. Rooms were clean and basic, beds comfortable choice of hard or soft bed, tea/coffee making facilities/tv. Food was very nice, excellent breakfast choice. Our breakfast was included but otherwise the restaurant was a bit pricey and they added 10% service charge on top. Average cost for carvery meal was approx £23 per person. Glass of wine £7. Service was slow on saturday night although not that busy; two managers and three staff still caused a delay. Good Points: Zoo - you can get half price tickets at reception to visit the zoo after 3pm, but during winter monhts this isnt very practical. Bus Stops outside to go to city centre, only short journey. Low points: 10% compulsory service charge in restaurant and snack bar. No shops or restaurants within walking distance (only Chinese opposite) No free wifi.

Room Tip: Avoid low floors for twin rooms, as you will be level with the car park.
