The hotel is right next to the edinburgh zoo. Locationwise it is quite far from the city centre and also from the airport. the good thing however is that a direct bus connects both to the city centre in one direction and the airport in the other direction. It has a decent asian restraunt with in and one nice chinese restaurant accross the road. the breakfast was substantial and tasted good.

The Hotel is in a good location and I asked for quiet rooms and got them numbers 416 and 418 overlooking the carpark. King size beds very comfortable and heating was adjustable. Bathrooms need updating but are clean as are the rooms. Hairdryers in the drawer but I'd take your own if you are a lady as not powerful and no nozzle for direction.
The hotel pool is too small and was very busy as it was the Easter holidays but not the Easter weekend. We had to book a slot to go into the pool but there were far too many people in there so only stayed in for 10 minutes not really worth bothering with the pool. Should only allow 12 people in there were about 26 people in far too small for that amount of people..
Did not eat at the hotel as too expensive but there are planty of Cafe's and a carvery about half a mile to a mile away near the local shops with good breakfasts and meals.
The parking can be difficult once the zoo is open but we were out from 10am to 5pm on both days so the parking was fine for us. You can get into the zoo for half price after 3pm if you stay here but are not told this by the staff. Overall would stay again as had a good sleep in a nice clean room.

Room Tip: quiet rooms fourth floor facing car park 416 and 418

We stayed here for a night out in Edinburgh at myrrayfield stadium. The room was clean & adequate. Reception staff friendly & helpful. Phoned us a taxi etc..
Bathroom looked a bit more dated than I expected, although there was nothing wrong with it. Pool was closed whilst we were there so didn't get the see that ( we were informed at time of booking).
My only issue was we had a 12pm check out ( which is standard I think), myself & my husband were enjoying our morning cuddling, when someone tried to come into our room. It was a man. Must have been cleaning all the rooms but we had the do not disturb sign on the door. Luckily we also had the chain on. I was absolutely mortified, especially as I did not have much on (the door still opened a little), and it was only 10am. There was definitely no knock at the door as we would of heard it.

Thank you very much for writing such a positive review of the hotel after your recent stay. It is disappointing to hear that, despite having your Do Not Disturb on the door, our housekeeping team member attempted to service your room.

Please accept my sincere apologies, on top of those you will no doubt have received from the team at the time. It is a standard that we knock a number of times before entering any guest rooms and I will use this feedback to help us ensure this does not happen again.

The swimming pool is operating as normal so you can make use of that when you visit us again on your next trip to Edinburgh.

Good value for money on a room for 2+2.
Decent clean rooms, nothing fancy or Scottish or Edinburghish (if this were a word) about them, but get there, sleep, shower leave. Convenient place indeed.
Good bus connectivity to city center, free parking, close to the zoo, overall a decent place.
The powerful hot shower was definitely very relaxing.

Had dinner one night, this was definitely not value for money, as expensive as any good restaurant but the food at Sampan was ordinary at best.

With that experience we did not venture breakfast, instead went to the Happy Coffee Bean (0.5mi west from hotel) for some wonderfully warm people and great coffee. muffins and scones.

Room Tip: the 2+2 room was good.

Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn Edinburgh for your recent visit to the city with family. It is a shame that your experience in Sampans Oriental restaurant wasn't a more positive one, I hope you found the service there to be up to standard.

I am certain you would have enjoyed your breakfast with us, with the freshly cooked buffet, pancake machines and a huge choice of cheeses, pastries yogurts and more available. However, I'm glad the team were able to direct you to an alternative, which was also enjoyable.

We look forward to you returning.

as we were planning to visit places out side the city, this location was great as it helped us avoid the chaos of the centre.

The grounds are nice, next to the Zoo. The rooms clean and spacious. Parking too was available at no charge.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. It is good to hear you found the location suitable for your planned visits outside the city centre, especially with the free parking and excellent transport links on which the hotel sits.
