Holiday Inn at the Zoo. Good location on the bus route into the city centre if you want a reasonable priced break. Check in was quick. Room on 4th floor was fine. Bathroom needs updating though! Water marks and rust in the bath were very noticeable. Didn't eat in the restaurants but they looked quite empty. Bed very soft, so not a great sleep.

Booked in January as a handy base for the rugby but we couldn't help but feel this hotel did not live up to expectations. Staff advised we travel to Waverly station rather than Haymarket which was undoubtedly nearer and added £7 to taxi ride. Our room (executive) was small - we had booked a double/twin and perhaps if there had been a double bed there might have been room to walk around the bed - as it was a solitary chair and oval desk were squashed in between twin bed and window whilst the other twin bed was wedged against a wall. Most disappointing was provision of only one bath sheet both days.

The room was undoubtedly clean with good snack provision and was nice and quiet. Our room in fact overlooked the flamingo pool at the zoo (and car park) and the hotel is immensely convenient for visits there as well as only a twenty minute walk to Murrayfield stadium.

The carvery on night one was dreadful - dried out meat, school dinner possibly frozen roasties and one veg option (undercooked cauliflower, carrot and broccoli all chucked in together). However the bar next to the restaurant offered some great food and breakfast was okay. Check out the Thai restaurant attached to the hotel restaurant for seriously good food.

This was undoubtedly the cheap and cheerful end of the market and would have been fine had room not been billed as executive

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Holiday Inn Edinburgh.
Firstly I must apologise that the hotel did not meet your expectations with regards to your room layout and I am sorry that your were misinformed regarding the best station I can only assume that the person was erring on the side side of caution.
I have passed on your feedback with regards to the carvery on Saturday night and thank for your lovely comments for Sampans.

Kind Regards

Check in was an absolute disgrace. One receptionist was dealing with a large group whilst another in-training just sat behind desk further back and had to be prompted to serve me, after a few minutes. When he did come over, couldn't find my details, had to call anther member of staff over, who was not the most pleasant of people to say the least! All in all, a terrible first impression and not what was needed after a 5 hour drive.

Nestling next door to Edinburgh Zoo, this hotel is on the bus route in from the airport, although the stop has moved further down the road, near the exit road from the hotel. Other city buses leave from the stop shared with the Zoo. Room was comfortable; could have done with a little updating though. Good leisure facilities, although you may have to book a slot to use the pool if the children are off school. Breakfast plentiful and now includes a pancake maker that looks uncannily like a photocopier...!!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the back tend to be quieter.

Comfortable room - helpful courteous staff - good food. Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park - very quiet. Room & bathroom spotlessly clean. Excellent bus route made this hotel a great choice. Would choose again.

Comfortable room, courteous staff and great breakfast Ideal for visiting Edinburgh. We had a room overlooking the car park at the back of the hotel but due to it being so close to Edinburgh Zoo (next door!) We could see 4 Gorilla's in there enclosure. The bed was a nice size and lovely pillows!! I would love to come back again as it was so easy to get into the city centre and back, as it is located on a major bus route.

One word of advice make sure you eat out or going to Tesco's if you need snacks or drinks. It is really expensive if you eat there!!!

We had a room overlooking the carpark at the back of the hotel. Very quiet and a well appointed room and bathroom.
