“Out of the way”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

You can find a better location if you are a tourist to Edinburgh. It's a bit of a hassle to find your way into town. There was a good breakfast here but to find a restaurant close or a pub is again a hassle. Not a very walkable friendly location. It is right next to the zoo but the hours for the panda exhibit were quite restrictive. All in all, I recommend the tourist look to a closer in location.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Holiday Inn Edinburgh.
It is disappointing to read that you did not find the location of the Hotel suitable for your needs.
The bus service does run frequently directly outside the hotel into the City Centre and we are situated a 10 minute walk but we do appreciate that this is not suitable for everyone.

Kind Regards
Claire

This hotel is not actually bad but is quite overpriced for what it is. We had what was classed as an executive room but it was not as good as a room in a Premier travel Inn. This location is challenging for elderly or disabled as it sits on a hill and access is by lots of steps. Two glasses of wine cost over £16 which I thought was pricey.

Ended up staying a night due to a flight delay. Pretty stock standard hotel. Good spread for breakfast with plenty on offer. Not sure about the pillows. Tried both the soft and hard, could not really tell the difference.

Probably would not pick this hotel myself, unless I was going to the zoo, it very good for that.

A very pleasant stay in a modern and clean hotel. A warm welcome from the staff. The room was very spacious but my only complaint was the bathroom was very small. I look forwaard to my return in June.

I enjoyed my stay here. Convenient free parking right outside, good quality rooms, and a fine breakfast buffet in the morning.

It is a modern hotel typical of holiday inn. Simple, clean, functional and pleasant.

For the business traveller there was an ironing board and iron, a good desk to sit at, and enough room to be comfortable.

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

I've stayed here on my own before, but this time returned with a large group occupying 4 rooms. This hotel is a perfect base for a group outing to Edinburgh - there's plenty of free car parking; the rooms are comfortable and more than adequately furnished etc; and the staff are friendly and helpful. This certainly isn't a "stag and hen hotel" in that the public areas are very civilised and there wasn't any noise from inside or outside the hotel, but it's certainly well enough designed and appropriately priced to make it an attractive choice for future trips to Edinburgh, either as a larger group or just one or two people. See my previous review (which has photos) for an idea of room layout etc. Executive rooms have fridges which are a nice bonus!

We booked here on a crazy busy rugby match weekend and were lucky to get it for under 100 Euro. They normally honored AAA discount customers but not this night. We had to find something in a panic because of a screw up caused by Arden Guest House (separate review) so by dumb luck I was able to get this room, which is in a modern hotel right off of the city bus stop. The only thing I didn't like about it was the method of getting up the hill to it. You either have to walk around the side of the entrance to the ramp (which we didn't see in the darkness) or go up two or three flights of stairs, outside and in, with all your luggage. Otherwise, it was a delight. Check in was friendly and quick and we got into our comfy room in no time. The bath was large enough and modern, with a tub deep enough to soak in, with really hot water, which is what I did almost immediately. The common area computers were inexpensive, and the on site restaurant, "Trattoria" I think, was available and had a buffet going on that night which was so tempting that I didn't even think of looking around for anything else. Like everything in that area, it wasn't cheap, but in the circumstances that we endured earlier that night, I would've been grateful for a cheese sandwich and a glass of still water. Our night was quiet except for some drunk rugby fans yelling and hooting outside our window until security finally went out and told them to leave. The rest of the night was quiet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front of the building. There is less noise.
