Home cooked food at its best. Everything on the menu sounded so good, in the end I opted for the Aspen burger... Mainly to sample the hand made chips! I wasn't let down! The staff were very pleasent and welcoming! I would highly reccomend popping in for a meal here... You can even catch the game on your own TV screen at your table! What more could you want on a sunday!!!

I was inticed to buyt this voucher as it showed some excellent steaks. In fact when we got there - a Thursday night so not too busy - we found that items on the menu where restricted, certainly where the 'grill' part was concerned. There was no steak in fact only hamburgers as part of the grill menu. We had choice of chicken with haggis, stew or a salad. Although teh food was fine it was very disappointing and a bit odd that a grill bar had run out of steak - surely better stock control is needed or a visit to a butchers to purchase when running low. Suspect though that a discount voucher I had and quoted when booking the table, may have had something to do with it as other diners were enjoying steak! Won't be returning.

On a recent trip to Edinburgh I decided to eat here as outside the restaurant it said it had good home cooked food.

I had the Balmoral chicken stuffed with haggis, when the girl asked how my meal was i ended up answering " actually its excellent". The chicken was moist and had a lovely spice running through the haggis, it came with wholegrain mustard mash and buttered kale (not your usual pub brocolli and carrots). I finished with their house speciality of puff candy meringue (not for the faint hearted). This dessert was one of the best i have ever had with homemade butterscotch sauce.

The prices are excellent, the décor could maybe be improved but gives a warm friendly welcome. The service is good and friendly. The bar has a good selection of drinks. However the seating seems to be stuck to the floor so if you with a bigger party it may be a problem to fit around the one table.

Being only five minutes up from the waverly i cannot see why this place seems so quiet but perhaps this was just the day I was in.

Overall I was very surprised by this find and look forward to trying some of the other dishes on the menu
