The rooms are as shown at the hotel website. We had a separate living room and a kitchen which is very nice with everything one need for simple food preparation (a microwave, a fridge, and a dishwasher). There is a nice restaurant, Pete's Yard coffee shop, and a store just outside the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel was simple but good. Full English breakfast, fruits... No vegetables though! NOTE: there is no air conditioning at the hotel and the windows open just a bit. It can get too hot.

Room Tip: separate living room was worth the money!

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel booked with booking.com for one night £108 in a double room. Hotel is modern and bright inside everything was spotless and our room had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again with our toddler in a family suite as there is a large park behind the hotel for walks and it is well located above the busy grassmarket to avoid excess noise but still in a central location. The hotel appears to be one of the first tenants in a large development project beside a Victorian hospital which is being converted into luxury flats. No big noise issues there whilst we stayed. The common areas of the hotel are warm but our room was a comfortable temp - 2nd floor. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Will be back - they delivered on what they promised!

We just checked in at this hotel yesterday and it's actually much better then we expected that is why i can't wait to share our experience.

Location
It is set in a nice area, great mix of nice historical building with the modern ones. Cafes and shops are all within one minute walk. It's also a nice and pleasant walk to Old and New Town.

Rooms
We are at 7th floor and have a balcony with a stunning view over Edinburgh. The room itself is very modern, spacious, clean and stylish. You feeel like at home here.

Service
We had a fantastic experince at the check in, was very quick and easy. We also had a great help with the directions and choice of the restaurant for dinner.

Will highly recommend this hotel, fantastic choice while staying in Edinburgh.

Really enjoyed our few nights at this well equipped and spacious apart hotel, with separate bedroom and lounge for option with rollaway bed. Kings suite perfect for families. Excellent breakfast - our daughter especially liked the apple Danish! Only 10min walk to Royal Mile. Starbucks, Peters Yard on site for coffees etc. The Meadows on your doorstep, which provides a real chilled out feel!

I have read a varied selection of other reviews and would agree on most of the common points: ie. corridors stifling, no air con, only one lift, breakfast area ill thought out, sink inside the room (weird), no bottled water supplied. Our dishwasher did not clean effectively. However we found the room quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
Judging by the reviews it would not take too much effort to put most of these matters right. Come on Marriott, you have had excellent free feedback!

Once again the Marriott staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed staying in this hotel. The room felt very clean, and I love the hardwood flooring. I did get upgraded during my stay there to be aware that I am not grading this based on a standard room.

I stayed in Edinburgh for two nights and arrived by train from Leeds. The train station is not far, but if you are carrying luggage, be aware that it is a bit of an uphill to walk to the hotel. You can actually walk to the train station in 15 minutes, and it’s a nice walk, but I wouldn’t do it with more than two hand-carries.

The interesting thing about the hotel is that it actually looks out of place because the complex is of modern design in the middle of classic Scotland architecture. If you arrive to the hotel late in the evening like we did, there are only a few dining options available to you since restaurants’ last call are typically at 11 PM. There is a place called “Favorit” up the road on Teviot Pl. that opens late and serves “ok” food for late evening. There are other late-night food joints around the area but again, it’s not dining restaurants, but just late-night eats.

The hotel is not far from the Edinburgh castle, which I unfortunately didn’t have time to visitm. And there is also Arthur’s Seat. If you like running and hiking like I do, you’ll understand why I visited Arthur’s Seat instead of the castle. The hotel is also close to the Grass Market pub area, which I have been told is where the college kids hang out, so go there at your own risk.

Keep in mind that I only stayed for the weekend, so I can't say whether my opinion that this hotel is in a "great location" would apply for those staying for much longer duration. I feel that it would.

I have just wrapped up a three-night stay at the Residence Inn Edinburgh.

For starters, having read many reviews, I e-mailed the GM in advance to request a lower floor to combat the heat complaints. Amazing, he e-mailed back in minutes (on a Sunday) and openly acknowledged that the complaints were fair that he would do his best to accommodate our request (low floor – which he did). For better or worse, the weather was absurdly cool for July (low 50s) so it was never an issue. That said, we were upgraded to a 1BR which was an idyllic "home base" for our long weekend.

The room itself was – as others have reported – exceptionally modern. Hardwood floors, Bosch kitchen appliances, two flatscreen televisions and excellent shower water pressure pretty much fulfills every reasonable checklist. The hotel staff was excellent and it felt much more like a small, private apart-hotel than a Marriott property (not a complaint at all). I will agree that the breakfast area was very busy during what felt like just about the whole breakfast window but no big deal.

The location in Edinburgh was perfect. It was ten minutes walk to the Royal Mile and Grassmarket, three minute stumble to the nearest pubs, one minute to Starbucks and Sainsbury's. Clearly the Quartermile area is continuing to be developed but for now, it's a pleasant little urban oasis.

This is a great property in a great location in a great city. I'd return without thinking twice.
