Just back from a stay at the Residence Inn over Saturday night just gone.

Very nice neighbourhood (Quartermile) and the staff were not only kind enough to afford us an early check in, but they also upgraded our room too (never had this before!).

Positives would be the rooms themselves (we were in a studio on the first floor) and the location.

Less positive things would include the hallways, which do not represent the image of the hotel one bit, especially given how new this hotel is, the rather compact and open plan breakfast area which frankly makes the hotel look very untidy in the morning, and the fact that we found a full set of ladies clothes in our room, along with the previous occupant's bar of soap and shower gel in the shower area. Pillows were too soft and caused me a restless and painful night, and noise from the corridor does carry, something which the cleaning staff in the mornings really do need to take note of.

All in all, though, a very positive stay, and we were very happy with the studio that we were given - spacious, well designed and had everything that one would need.

Would definitely use the Residence Inn brand again - maybe a return to Edinburgh but only if it were on offer / in a sale.

This is a lovely, well appointed hotel with an incredibly helpful and accommodating staff. The location is great - just off the beaten path but only steps from restaurants, shoppes, and parks. The rooms are bright and clean - the bathrooms are tiny but clean and functional. There is free on-site laundry, convenient for long term travelers. The breakfast, included in the price of the room, is plentiful and delicious - lots of lovely choices. I cannot say enough about the staff - they are enthused, helpful, knowledgeable and delightful. There was only one slight hiccup upon check-in, when I asked for a room with 2 beds for me and a colleague and was told that for stays of 5 days (which ours was) we could only have a room with one bed and a pull-out couch. That was quickly remedied (she clearly made up her own rules - why? who knows!) and there were no other issues with the trip. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: June 2013 there was a lot of construction at an adjoining property - our room overlooked it and we did not hear any machinery at all - ever .... but I did hear other guests saying that it was distracting for them at times. So maybe inquire about the status of the construction in the area when booking your room.

Situated in the fast-changing, modern Quartermile area of the city, this hotel’s a pleasant 10- or 15-minute stroll to shops, restaurants and sights (do try the lovely cafe on the corner of the street, Peter’s Yard, for lunch, or tea and cakes).
Rooms are sleek and comfortable: suites have a separate living area with small kitchen and desk. Shower room´s a bit small, but that´s a minor gripe.
Free wifi, nice buffet breakfast, really helpful staff. There’s a small bar in the hotel and reception will also call local restaurants for take-aways you can serve up in your kitchen.
Great, flexible hotel concept.

Room Tip: We stayed at weekend, so no office workers in sleek new building opposite. During week, request room on other side, perhaps?

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room had no air conditioning and was rather stuffy. The window was kept open day and night and I finally resorted to using an electric fan to circulate the air. The window looked directly into an office building so the drapes should be kept shut during office hours.

The seating area for the breakfast was to small to accomodate the guests. I did use the washer and dryer during my three day stay. The dryer wasn't working properly and I ended up hanging up my still damp clothes in the bathroom to finish drying.

We stayed here for two nights in October 2013 and were really impressed by the hotel & staff. The hotel is locatet within the Quartermile district and it takes you only 5-10 minutes to walk to the Royal Mile. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and clean and had a small kitchen area with microwave, fridge, dishwasher, toaster and kettle. Breakfast offered a huge range of continental and cooked breakfasts and was very delicious. But it is served in the Lobby / Bar area, which seemed too small for the size of the hotel. Nevertheless we would highly recommend it!
