This was a nice hotel except for one major flaw. They had no air conditioning and we were told they had no plans to put it in bc the need for it is only a couple months out of the year. Caution: even though it may be nice outside-the inside is very hot because only 1st & 2nd floor windows are able to open enough to let any air through. (for safety reasons) The rest of the rooms were unbearable. We spent our first night with no sleep until they could move us to a lower floor the next night. Then it was more comfortable but the noise level was higher. At least we slept. Just avoid this during the Summer months and caution when the temps are beginning to rise as they will be much higher in the building.

Room Tip: Lowest floor in corner if you must...that way you will get 2 windows-one in bathroom with a cross se...

I have stayed here on business and for a couple of weekends for the last 9 months, and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Every single member of staff remembers your name and makes you feel valued, whatever the length of stay or the bizarre things you request! And when my husband joins me, he gets the same treatment.
The rooms are all lovely - good mixture and the 7th floor ones with balconies are fab in the summer afternoons. Cleanliness is of the highest order and the kitchens are great.
The location for Edinburgh central is superb - located between the Royal Mile and the Meadows, which are such a lovely resource for walking, running and relaxing in.
Couldn't recommend the place highly enough.

Room Tip: Ask for one out the back if you want quiet and a higher floor too. In the summer, the higher floors...

Cannot rate this hotel highly enough! Friendly staff, big spacious and spotless rooms. The apartment allows for cooking with a toaster kettle microwave and dishwasher if required. Our room was huge and very well thought out.
Fantastic shower and it was all immaculate.
Staff were friendly and helpful - when I phoned to get directions for parking and always had a friendly hello.
This wee gem is located in the Quartermile an up and coming area of Edinburgh just beside the meadows and a short walk to the Royal Mile.
We were attending our daughters graduation at the MacEwan Hall a very short walk away.
Having had 2 fantastic stays this year the Residence Inn will be our hotel of choice from now on.
Thanks to all staff who made the stay great!

The hotel is nicely fitted out, and the rooms are large and spacious, beds are comfy. Most staff are friendly.
The breakfast needs work- it's not great quality and often busy and crowded- and the hotel corridors can get extremely hot. Can be noisy at times.

It's off the Royal Mile by about a half mile. It was very nice and felt really new. The staff was great. I would definitely stay there again. Staff was very friendly. I ordered room service and, while the scotch was an excellent recommendation, the sandwich was "meh."

I highly recommend the hotel. Certainly one of the nicer, cleaner Marriott properties I've stayed in.

On face of it, the Residence Inn appears to be a newly built hotel with many modern features and well designed e.g. Bosch & Duravit fittings. However, as you look closer and experience living there, it is a completely different story.

Considering the hotel had been recently constructed, the room we had (one of the best apparently? - Room 308 - large studio) had a TV control that didn't work, door stops that were badly fitted and didn't keep the doors open, the shower pole that came lose and fell over, a shower screen that leaked water, the toilet was fitted so that only those people over 6 feet would feel comfortable and shower pressure, that quite frankly meant you would be better off standing in the rain.

At this point we thought our nightmare stay was over....how wrong we were....

After coming down to breakfast, it was clear that the breakfast and eating area was ill conceived and poorly designed (and acknowledged as so by a couple of the serving staff). The eating experience more resembled a school canteen than a dining experience that you would ordinarily associate with the Marriott. It felt more like a Travel Lodge, as it was over-crowed, cramped and claustrophobic, which meant that every time someone passed your table they either bumped into you or the table, or had to contort themselves to avoid the numerous dining 'hazards'. Our approach was to get up from our seats to avoid this particular challenge. It was clear to both of us that there was too few seats for the number of residents and I would hate to think what it was like on a busy weekday.

Just to really finish things off, the food was poorly prepared and unappetising, including emaciated sausages that looked like they were barely cooked. I usually have a very healthy appetite, but could only muster up enough enthusiasm for a banana as the coffee also left a great deal to be desired.

For the budget, I would suggest that you go to The Roxburghe (Crowne Plaza) and save yourself a whole load of angst.

Room Tip: Avoid - go somewhere else

After a very long journey we were greeted at reception by a lovely man called Paul, he asked if it was a special occasion (girlfriends birthday) he listened to the journey we had and without prompting upgraded our room and provided free parking for our 3 day trip. It was a lovely surprise what a credit this employee is as we will come back and I will recommend this place. THE apartment is beautiful in a great location, the complimentary breakfast very tasty, love it here
