As a family we love a carvery and have visited many in the chain but this was a bit away from the usual standard we have come to expect. Meat was fine but my personal favourite the gammon was tastless and no parsnips :-( roast Potatoes were not up to toby scratch either, sounds like I'm being picky I know but when you expect certain things and you go on the overpriced Sunday you expect what you always get... Service was fantastic though I have to say

“not the best night we have had there”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

we go to toby carvery @ lauriston farm at least 4 or 5 times a month, but last night was a nightmare, kids were running all over the place, while their parents were sitting in the lounge drinking, at one stage 2 of the boys who were outside in the beer garden stood on a chair and set paper alight by reaching up to the wall heater, they dropped the lit paper against the wooden shelter, and ran away inside, there were wee tots outside playing, who could have been badly burned if a man had not stood on the lit paper (burning his trainers at the same time) then about twenty minutes later the boys were back with glasses filled with ice and they splattered the ice over tables out in the beer garden, I have no idea why the staff did not stop these chikldren running about inside the restaurant when people were sitting having a meal, they nearly knocked an old lady over who was carrying her plate from the carvery to her table. I think the staff need to stop this happening again, and they should speak to parents who are not able to control their children, after all who wants to sit down for a nice meal and have someone,s children run riot about the place, it has certainly changed my opinion of the place, if it happens again, I will walk out and refuse to pay.

“Good but room for improvement”
Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

We went recently and although the service was not bad I found the slices of meat very thin and not much of it on the plate. Potential to be a really nice restaurant

“If you want to go to Toby's and are under 65 then go to Costorphen”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

If you don't know what Toby's is then its a chain restaurant where you can get an extremely cheap carvery which will consist of a slither of meat and a mountain of over-cooked all-you-can-eat veg. Doesn't matter which one you go to, its pretty much the same poor quality at all (there are 3 in Edinburgh).

I've been to this particular one 3 times (i don't know why) and every time it has been filled with people of 65+ so being 30 years old I felt somewhat out of place. It is slightly quieter than the Costorphen branch since it is more out of the way but because of this the food seems to sit out longer and deteriorates more.

The one sort-of good thing this place has going for it is that it is 2 min drive from Crammond beach so you can walk off your shame while feeling like a beached whale after eating way more low quality food than you should have.

“Grat Value Carvery”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Used this restaurant 4 times in 10 days during a recent visit to Edinburgh stopping at The Caravan Club site nearby. The Edinburgh C/C site had promotion flyers offering 2 carvery meals for £10 or Breakfast with a drink ( Coffee ) for £3.99. Even without the flyer you could get two courses for £6.50 which we did on both occasions we ate on a night. The staff were very pleasant and even on a busy Saturday night ( 31-5-2014 ) seemed to be coping admirably with the large amount of trade. The bonus for all real ale drinkers was Deuchars hand pull was incredibly only £2.40 a pint, a bargain !
Breakfast was plentiful but my only little gripe was we had to wait for some time for coffeei as no sooner was one jug filled, then it was gone, and the lengthy proccess of brewing another jug would start all over. Possibly a system during busy times for dispensing larger ammounts of coffee would be a good investment.
I would certainly recommend this place as a bargain priced restaurant and the next time we are in the area we will certainly return.
Keep up the good work.
