The 5 star reviews led me to take a chance on this rental for our 4 nights in Edinburgh and I was rewarded with out best accommodation experience in 3 weeks over 3 countries. It's a cozy and spotlessly clean apartment right in the middle of town, within walking of all we wanted to do, and in back is a gorgeous old kirkyard. We would sit at the little kitchen table, drinking tea made by the electric kettle, eating cheese and snacks purchased at the nearby recommended shop, and watch through the window as locals walked their dogs and tourists placed sticks in remembrance at Bobby's grave. Wood shutters open onto the street scene below in the bed and living rooms. A cozy vantage point in a magical city. I was traveling with my 21 year old daughter and we felt very safe and snug. The owner Axel left us bread, jam, butter, orange juice and milk. There is a full size refrigerator, we cooked using the new-condition nonstick pans and spotless stove, and at the half point in our trip the washing machine was much needed and appreciated. If you've ever paid to have a load of laundry done in a hotel you will know what I mean! There is a lovely large tub for a soak and a separate standing shower. The bed was comfy and although you can hear street noise it gets very quiet by midnight, and not a peep from the neighbors. The owner also leaves you a set of suggestions for making your stay a more pleasant experience. The apartment is up two floors of a tiny spiral stone staircase, so old and worn that the steps slope in the middle, and the key system is -
well you have to see it. It ultimately added to the charm. On arrival I was a bit concerned about entry but follow Axel's clear directions and you'll be fine.
Greyfriar's Bobby is an awesome location!! We stayed for 3 days and found it easy to get to and from in the heart of the action. The flat is well stocked for all your needs - just like being at home. Axel was prompt and made sure everything went smoothly. We walked to lots of attractions and were able to be within a block of a supermarket for food & supplies. Would definitely recommend and stay at Greyfriar's again.
Aside from a slightly sketchy entryway and shutters that don't quite keep out all the light, this is a great place to stay in Edinburgh. It's right across the street from the National Museum of Scotland (free!) and looks into the graveyard at Greyfriars Abbey. You can even go and rub Greyfriars Bobby's nose each morning as you walk down the street. The bed is large and comfortable, and the shower is one of the best we've encountered on our journey. The street is fairly quiet for a city street, even if the locals can get a tad rowdy at 3am.
We were greeted with a small welcoming basket with different kinds of chocolates and there was OJ and milk in the fridge. Axel was incredibly helpful and very timely in his email replies. I would come here again.
We spent 4 nights here at Greyfriars Bobbys Apartment. Large very clean accommodation. Plenty of space to move around. Kitchen very well equipped with as much crocery and pots and pans as anyone would need. (We did not cook any meals as we were out almost all day every day) Axel left us bread milk butter, some teabags and jar of coffee, some chocolate biscuits and all condiments we would have used if we had cooked. The location is brilliant for all the local attractions and also for tour pick up point. Would def. recommend this accommodation to anyone who needs a handy place to stay, just be careful that you are able to climb stairs as accommodation is on the 2nd floor. No problem to us as we are fit. Next time we are in Edinburgh we would look for this apt. again. Thanks Axel.
I booked this apartment for my partners birhday. Having seen good feedback. The Location of the flat is perfect for exploring the city on foot. We got a Taxi from the airport and this was £22. However we found that only a short walk away you can get the airport bus for £4.50 each and this leaves every 20mins. The flat has everything you could want and is finished to a high standard. There are some little extras that really make the difference. The bread orange juice and milk are a welcome sight if you've had a long trip. A massive thank you to Axel. Will be recomending this to anyone who askes about where to stay if they are going to Edinburgh. Would love to go back again.
Great apartment, located perfectly for exploring Edinburgh by foot. It is a casual walk from the train station and we found our way around so easily thanks to the extensive selection of maps, sightseeing brochures and public transport info that were supplied in the apartment. Edinburgh is fantastic for culture, whisky and vegan food.
Apartment was light and airy, spacious, modern and well-equipped. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Nice option to have a log fire in the living room. Comfy bed, smart bathroom.
We couldn't have asked for more and the owner was very helpful. Highly recommended
